Leaving him was the hardest thing I've ever done, but I have to put our people first. Werewolf City is at war and I'll do whatever it takes to turn the tides in the wolves' favor, even if it means stepping up in my new role. The Paladins are a secretive people that I know nothing about. What I thought would be a quick trip into their lands turns into a fight for my life. The future Sawyer and I have dreamed of together threatens to crumble. I'm torn. Do I choose love and a sure future with the man of my dreams, or do I follow my heart and save a dying people I know nothing about, no matter the cost? Either way I have to make it back to him; I can't imagine a life in which we don't exist together.

Demi became very badass, which counts are character growth I suppose??? Demi & Sage combo sure works better than Demi & Sawyer :D

So this book sucked lol. It was meh. I did like the Demi finally acknowledged that she was being selfish and a lot of this book was her working through that...but it wasn't enough. This book was really boring and I found myself not even caring about the Paladins. I honestly would have preferred to read a longer book than to have this end like it did and then have to wait for book 4. At this point I don't know if I will read book 4. Book 2 had me feeling angry and annoyed enough to read book 3 but this one left me bored and now I don't care what happens. Maybe it's cause I went in thinking this was the last book, I don't know. Or maybe it's that this book felt really rushed. This was pretty much a filler book. A HUGE chunk of the book was just "three months later". literally. Every chapter started with three months later until a whole year had passed. I wish the author had pushed back the release date and just given us a book that had 3 and 4 in it. It probably would have been better written, plotted, and executed. Sawyer still sucks and now my hopes of Demi leaving him have been squashed to mulch.
