Okay so I loved this! The banter, angst, vampires and the characters made this extremely addictive and entertaining. Rose is such a badass and despite her occasional missteps she always remembers what’s important and is incredibly loyal to her friends. I loved watching the dynamic between her and her mother and seeing their relationship evolved. I also enjoyed getting to know Mia, Mason and Eddie. I loved meeting Adrian and the snarky dialogue between him and Rose. Can’t wait to see more of him. And Dimitri as ever was brilliant! I can’t wait to see what happens next.

I don't like any of it. But I want to know what might happen next?? Why am I into a book that is totally worse than the first book? RTC

Just fun. Rose is both infuriating and amazing. I didn’t think I’d actually enjoy these books but they’re just fun.

I believe it's been almost exactly a year since I've read the first book in this series, Vampire Academy. Why it took me so long to pick up Frostbite, part two? I have no idea. Because I did really enjoy the first book, even though it's about vampires - a subject I've been avoiding for a very long time. (Blame Twilight for that, yay). I think Vampire Academy made me realise that not all vampire and werewolf books are like Twilight and that some of them are definitely worth reading. Frostbite continues the story of Rose Hathaway and Lissa Dragomir - a Damphir guardian and Moroi princess - and their adventures at St. Vladimir's. A Moroi royal family has just been slaughtered by Strigoi vampires, and the Moroi society realises that they aren't safe anymore. So they are swept away to a luxurious ski resort for the rest of their Christmas holiday, hoping the Strigoi won't find them there. But for Rose, being stuck in a resort with the guy she's in love with (Dimitri) and the guy who's in love with her (Mason) isn't really something to be happy about. The first thing I noticed, was that the prologue basically retells the events that happened in the previous book in a couple of pages. That is something I really like - and I'm gonna make a petition to get all authors to do this (just kidding, but really they should) - because it is so handy for people who take a long time to read the rest of a series (*points at self*). Especially those who don't feel like rereading the previous books. I really hope Richelle Mead did this for the rest of the series as well, because that could save people so much time (unless they're binge-readers, then it doesn't really matter). Most of the original characters were in this book as well; Rose and Lissa (of course), Dimitri, Christian, Mason, Mia. There were also some new characters; Rose's mum Janine, Tasha (Christian's aunt), Adrian. I have to say I really liked Tasha, and for some reason I imagined her looking like Natasha Romanoff (aka Black Widow), but that was basically just because of the name. I'm not too sure what to think about the other two characters, I didn't really like Rose's mum in the beginning because Rose didn't like her either - but I guess she grew on me near the end. And I still don't really like Adrian. The story was easy to read and I got through it at top speed. I really enjoyed the winter setting, and the Strigoi attacks kept it exciting throughout the whole book. Because honestly, I didn't really like the romance part of this book. Which is something I probably say about every book that has even the slightest bit of romance in it - but here I just wasn't sure what to think about it. Rose is in love with Dimitri - but he doesn't want her because of various reasons. Mason is in love with Rose - but Rose only sees him as a friend, but then suddenly decides to make out with him several times throughout this book. Then there is Tasha who wants to make a baby with Dimitri - which makes Rose hate Tasha which I kind of get but also not. Yeah, the romance in this book was very complicated and though I was interested in finding out what was going to happen between Rose and Dimitri - I was also a bit annoyed at it. (The only romance I really liked in this book was Lissa and Christian's). I do like seeing Rose and Dimitri together, but I just hate the way he so desperately tries to ignore his feelings for her, and I hate how she desperately tries to forget about him by making out with Mason and if she'd had her way a lot of other boys as well. Yeah I really like Rose as a character, but I'm just not sure what to think about her boy... let's just call it a 'problem' okay? Like I said, the story was written in such a way I flew through it, and I enjoyed reading it very much. There were some parts that made me laugh, there was one particular part that made me cry in the middle of the night while my alarm clock was set for 6:30am. It certainly made me want to read more, and I immediately added the next book, Shadow Kiss, to my cart on Book Depository. I think Vampire Academy has cured me from my vampire allergy, yay! My opinion on this book in one gif:

This book was so amazing. I loved every minute of it. The characters and plot were amazing. I unfortunately do not have the next book. When my tbr is lower. I will be getting the rest of the book series. I need to know about Dimitri and Rose, Lissa and Christian. Now lets talk about this book!!! The characters were amazing like always. Dimitri and Rose... I love them. They are so cute and wonderful it makes me all giddy inside. Lissa and Christian are amazing also (I know, I know, I keep saying amazing, wonderful, and love... I can't help it) they are just so fun and loveable. The plot in this book was super entertaining and fun. It had a ton of action, love, and sacrifice. I really enjoyed it. It made me laugh and feel sad at times. I loved this book!!! I cannot wait to get the next book. I NEED SHADOW KISS!!! xoxo, Bebe

Now I know why people were trying to get me to read this series a long time ago; it just gets better and better. And I hope it continues to get better! I have several WONDERFUL things to say, as well as a few DREADFUL ones that need to be said but I promise the wonderful outweighs the dreadful. After the events that occurred in Vampire Academy the students of St. Vladimir’s start to get back into their regular routines. Rose is off to be tested by a famous Guardian, only to find that he and his Moroi family were murdered by Strogoi. After this opposing threats to the Moroi comes to light the faculty decides to send everyone to a ski resort for the winter break. Relationships form and grow stronger, Lissa’s madly in love with Christian, Rose is fighting her feelings for Dimitri, Mason is still one of her biggest fans, but who is this new Moroi royal who’s come to play? After the Moroi are attacked even in daylight the guardians start to wonder how these attacks are taking place. Deciding to take matters in their own hands the students decide to go out on their own and do a little hunting. I love how the tone in Frosbite stayed the same as in Vampire Academy. Less bullying perhaps, less dead animals, but there was still that constant dread that the Strogoi were going to attack any minute. I have this nasty feeling that all the events of the series are going to take place within the year and I’m not sure how I feel about that…Such big events should be more spaced out, BUT it is a YA novel/series after all. Imagine, Rose and Lissa’s entire world changing in the course of a year. It’s worse than Harry Potter. At least big things happened only once a year at their school. As serious as it is there’s still a high school playfulness about Rose and her friends. Like any other teenager they all look forward to winter break; especially winter break at a fancy ski resort. All-expense paid, mostly stress free…. It’s kind of nice how the seriousness is taken away by common high school events. Let’s get to the juicy part…. The new Moroi royal – Adrian Ivashkov.HOLY MOTHER! I thought Dimitri was hot, now I can’t even categorize them on a scale. Where Dimitri is classic, strong silent zen master, all-out badass, and has a SEXY Russian accent, Adrian is charismatic, arrogant, full of himself, and even a TAD BIT stalkerish. And when I say tad, I mean VERY MINIMAL…mostly. He just has this charm you’re instantly attracted to and wish he would pay attention to you the way he pays attention to Rose. Two very different boys pining after one very special Dhampir. I seriously can’t decide who I like or WANT more…Dimitri or Adrian…AHHHHH!!!!!!As for the dreadful stuff…the ending was pretty bad. And I mean bad as in like I cried. I’M NOT GONNA TELL YOU WHY! But it was sad….it was just….really sad. You remember in the Harry Potter Order of the Phoenix film, where Sirius died (OH SPOILER SIRIUS DIES) and the whole movie goes silent and you see Harry kicking and screaming but there’s only faint music in the background. Yeah, this scene is THAT INTENSE. I literally felt like everything happened in slow motion and it was just downhill from there…. The PLUS side to all of that is the last chapter is REALLY FREAKING GOOD! And that’s all I’m going to say to that affect. Onto book 3 – Shadow Kiss. 2 down and four to go! Don’t think or know if I’m going to read the spin-off series… 4/5 Hearts of Love Again, because I can’t give it an extra point just because Adrian is so yummy!

A good second installment of the series. It still focuses heavily on Rose's character, and not as much on her relationship with Lissa, but more on her other relationships. Once again there was a nice tense bit of action toward the end.

I loved the increase in action in this one. And the more Christian Ozera the better. But I am starting to not like the use of the bond between Rose and Lissa. It feels like a poor crutch.

Certainly a step down from the first book imo, but still very much worth it. Prose was still top notch, but I felt like it was trying to appeal to a very large audience in the first half. It kept explaining things that had already been developed in the first book (presumably) to make the book easier to understand for people who hadn't read the first book.

That said, the second half more than made up for it. Things actually happened, but I think that the romance was a bit "forced". Not going to spoil anything, but the focus on romance was too much in my opinion.

I felt like the book could have been a lot longer (I finished it in ~4 hours and I'm not an especially fast reader), but its okay I guess. I didn't like it nearly as much as the first book.

Still going to read the 3rd book, but I hope that it wasn't as "meh" as this one.

Im trying very hard but I cant seem to stay unattached to this series. The story has took an unexpected turn. There is totally more action and this is where we truly find out just how great of a guardian Rose truly is, as she claims to be. Plus major, and I mean major, character development for Rose and Lissa. Plus we get to see more interesting characters that make the story even more complicated, which is a really good thing. I can finally see some self discipline in Rose when it comes to Dimitri, and she's made better choices and deals with her job epicly. Lissa also has matured quite a lot. She doesnt rely that much on Rose anymore, largely because of Christian Ozera. This is good especially when Rose is off doing her ... business. Rose's love life is certainly getting much more complex. There are lots of prospective ships (for us fangirls). We have Mason (at first), and the ladies gotta watch out for Adrian, although Im still not sure if I like his character. Overall, the Mead took it to a whole new level. Very action packed, thrilling, romantic, and an explosive ending to match.

Great continuation and thank the heavens, the narrator changed! BUT, I think Rose's (although being my favorite character) voice is off putting. I think this narrator did a great job with everyone else, but the main character. You can't mess that up! Besides that, I think this book was better paced then the first one. Still slow, but a lot better! I enjoyed listening to Rose's character grow and watch her kind of be put in her place a few times. Even though I think the other characters underestimate her too much. I really, REALLY want something cool to happen to her. I want her to have this epiphany or this kind of ah-ha moment, but I guess it will eventually come since there are six books in the series. After the ending, I'm looking forward to certain friendships (and maybe something more) developing... cough cough, Adrien. I REALLY liked Adrien's character, but not only him, I found a new appreciation for Mia. I kind want her and Rose to become friends. (I never thought I would say that.)

"No."

"What?"

"I told her no. Tasha"

"I... But... why? That was a once-in-a-lifetime thing. You could have had a baby And she... she was, you know, into you..."

"Yes, yes she was. Is. And that's why I had to say no. I couldn't return that... couldn't give her what she wanted. Not when... Not when my heart is somewhere else.

-

You were right, about how I fight to stay in control. No one else has ever figured that out - and it scared me. You scare me.

-

Tasha Ozera is an amazing woman. She's beautiful and she's brave. But she doesn't-"

"She doesn't get you"

"I knew that. But I still wanted the relationship. I knew it would be easy and that she could take me away from you, I thought she could make me forget you."

"But she couldn't"

"Yes. And, so... that's a problem"

"Because it's wrong for us to be together"

"Yes"

"Because of the age difference"

"Yes"

"But more importantly because we're going to be Lissa's guardians and need to focus on her - not each other"

"Yes"

"Well, the way I see it, we aren't Lissa's guardians yet"

I steeled myself for the next response. I knew it was going to be one of the Zen life lessons.

Instead he kissed me.

It was then that I realized something.

I was kissing Mason, but in my head, I was with Dimitri. With my eyes closed, it was easy to pretend.

But when I opened them and saw Mason's eyes, I knew he was with me.

It wasn't right.

I wiggled out of his reach. "No... don't"

Mason stopped immediately because that's the kind of guy he was.

Page 214

I can't get physical with you because when I do, I just think about the other guy I actually want. You're just a stand in.

You would be the perfect man, if there wasn't the other guy... 🤍

"I knew... I knew what Lucas and Moira had become, but that still didn't prepare me. Mentally, physically, or emotionally. I think if I had to live through it again, I still wouldn't be ready. But after that night, I looked at myself -and realized how defenseless I was. I'd spent my whole life expecting guardians to protect me and take care of me.

I decided that I didn't want to die that way, not without putting up a real fight and do everything I could to protect myself and those I love."
