I had really high hopes for this book based on the basic story line and seeing great reviews of it...maybe that's why I was disappointed. 

The story is pretty much that the American Revolution Reenactors were there first and then the Civil War moved in across the streer. Chelsea had been working there her entire life and was a big part of the war between the Revolution and the Civil War. After being kidnapped, she met Dan and fell for him. Of course since he was the enemy, dating was out of the question and had to be kept hidden. 

To be honest, I felt Chelsea was petty and annoying. Maybe that makwa her a normal teenager, but I couldn't relate. She whined about her ex moving on until she admitted to the rose tinted glasses. She didn't seem to like her own best friend. She betrayed those she cared about first by lying about Dan then by ratting out his family. 

I read it pretty quickly and there were times where I wanted to know what happened. Overall though, I was just disappointed.

This was such a good read and I am so glad I made it my 'it's raining and dreary outside and I want something to make me think of summer' read. I sped through this surprisingly quickly and really enjoyed myself. Especially as there were all these little historical facts in there and guess who totally would have loved working at a historical village?

I got this book at a bargain price after it lurked on my TBR for a few years and hot damn it was awesome. It was a very light easy read all about getting over a breakup, realising what love is, and moving on! It managed to comment on historical thinking, both how we create a story with history even if one is not there. And history is always written by the victors. Same goes for how we think back on past events, we tend to tone things down and forget the bad things when good things happened too.

I really liked this book and that it wasn't a book filled with romance and undying love of teenagers but instead just kids making dumb choices, being teens and figuring out life. they are not perfect and it's not all about romance. Instead, this is about friends, life, and learning new things.

It was a super cute read. I loved the setting so much. I also really liked the characters. Just a cute fun read!
