Beautiful Losers

Leonard Cohen

The life of an Indian maiden, the course of a homosexual affair, and the tale of an old man are woven together in this bizarre religious epic

I actually only read about 25% of this book. There are a few jewels of profound thinking here and there but buried in a whole pile of obscenities. I can see the effort to relentlessly break all barriers of conformity and puritanism but it's just too much. Instead of helping the mind to connect with the author, it soils any attempt to plunge into the lecture, to the point of spiritual disgust. The stars are, nevertheless, for those rare moments of openness. Thank God Cohen decided to switch from this genre to poetry and song!

I'm not sure what I just read. I'm also not sure if that's a good or bad thing.

Here's a quote to give you an idea. It's up to you to guess what he's describing.
"I am surrounded by artesian exuberance, nipply frills, numberless bulby brains, pumping constellations of mucous hearts. Moist Morse messages move up my arm, master my intellectual head, more, more, message dormant portions of dark brain, elect happy new kings for the exhausted pretenders of the mind. I am a seal inventing undulations in a vast electric aquade, I am wires of tungsten burning in the seas of bulb, I am creature of Mary cave, I am froth of Mary wave, bums of nurse Mary applaud greedlity as she maneuvers to plow her asshole on the edge of my arm bone, rose of rectum sliding up and down like the dream of a banister fiend."
