I bought this because the illustrations are so lovely that I wanted to add it to my art book collection. I picked it up this evening and was utterly charmed by the writing and moved by the women Clinton chose to include. This book does not cover all the standard "Important American Women". I was so excited to see Florence Griffith Joyner, Sonia Sotomayor, and Claudette Colvin included. 

I appreciated the care Clinton clearly took to include women of impact who are frequently left out of history books. While there are some groups unrepresented, Alexandra Boiger makes sure to include little girls from all walks of life in the illustrations. 

I loved it. Will definitely be referencing this on days when I need something to boost my spirits.

A wonderful book about important women in history that shows young girls (and older) why they should always persist and never give up no matter what stands in there way. It was sweet and strong. I would give it to any girl of any age.

While I'm not the intended audience for these She Persisted short stories, I couldn't resist them when I was given the opportunity to read and review. I'm all about finding a way to supplement an educational system that is lacking in so many ways and I believe these chapter books could do just that for kids. At a little under half an hour, the audio was a quick listen for me. The narrator, Janina Edwards, did a great job bringing Claudette's story to life.

I always like to preface these reviews by saying I'm aware I'm not the intended audience for these middle-grade chapter books. But let me tell you this — younger me would've been all over a series like this. This has been my favorite of those I've listened to so far. While it covers her youth and journey to become the first woman in space, I think the reason I enjoyed it so much has to do with her involvement with the Challenger (before the disaster) and her contributions to the Rogers Commission Report. The Challenger Disaster is my earliest "news" memory so this hit me in a different way than some of the others. I also appreciate how each of these books ends with suggestions for how the reader can persist.

A great book for young children, however sometimes the idea of persisting can make you feel bad when things get too hard to push through. Like, what about all the women in American history who just did what they could to survive and didn’t break world records? Why don’t we also talk to children about *why* women have had to persist so damn much? The book kinda addresses this but it could be nice to have some sort of companion book about all the laws and all the men who have forced women to persist or simply survive, you know what I mean? Like to point the finger at the perpetrators of oppression. I’m rambling - this is a great book lol!
