"For a too brief moment in the universe the veil was lifted. The mysterious became known. Questions met answers somewhere behind the stars. Furrowed brows were smoothed and eyelids closed over long unblinking stares." above is one passage i took when maya talked about condolences. you know what im trying to say! the writing styleee it's soooo prettyy ≥﹏≤ (but not in an overstyling way *yk* it's just. enough. pretty. for me. ≥3≤) this book warmed me in sooo many aspects, really. i never intended to read nonfiction books about any culture (just bcs i found it too serious and it's not entertaining me *me being antisocial*) but! oh godness.. i do really think otherwise after reading this book. there are few poetry inserted in this book and believe me when i said i got my eyes teary reading those masterpieces. my favs were The Collected Poems of Langston Hughes by Alfred A. Knopf &Vintage Press and The Negro Caravan by Citadel Press. they are just so.. beautiful and heartbreaking..

had cool quotes i didnt vibe with it tho sry

A lovely little book of wisdom and a short, easy read. Angelou had such wonderful insight to share with the world and I’m glad she did so in this unique manner (a letter to the daughter she didn’t have but felt she could teach/encourage with wisdom gleaned from her life experiences). Even better that this little book was a gift from my mom :)

All I knew about Maya Angelou was through Oprah when I was some 14 years old. At that age, one can't confidently say that one knew her and could understand what she was preaching. I just liked her energy. Only now and after all these years, I gave way under the temptation to read my first Maya Angelou book ever. Having chosen to listen to it as an audiobook is one of the best choices I have made this year (related to books) as she is herself the narrator. I appreciated the poetry and could feel the love she conveyed through her book. It was truly a charming audiobook. Words flew from her effortlessly. #200Reviews
