Heaven's net is wide

It's a prequel but one can read this as a standalone. Its about the life of one of the side characters that is a mentor character in the later books. But in this he felt different. Now he is younger and so much of his character development was based on the woman he loved. I think it was most tragic that he could not love his wife and she would not live him no matter what he tried. It all felt so real. 

Its not fantasy and in fact there is no magic in here. There are a bunch of assassins that life in the mountains that can do magic, as is known in later books, but this prequel is completely free of that. Its a deep, tragic and dramatic story about a man who struggles with all sort if challenges the samurai life holds.

This is not my first read of this book. Its just soo good.

Heaven's Net is Wide

As other reviewers have mentionned, I'm really glad I read this after Harsh cry of the heron, which was a very disapointing conclusion to a fantastic series. Heaven's net is wide is the prequel to the series and I enjoyed very much. It is the perfect beginning/end for the wonderful Tales of the Otori.
