Vicious cycle of womanhood and craving then hating what you can’t have but desperately want. Liked the look into 50s onward Hollywood and also just the cache of cultural capital some people are born with. Made Eve Babitz compelling asf gotta go read Eve’s Hollywood soon. 

A good book, and good background information on the art and the artist before jumping into either of their’s works. I respect the author’s acknowledgement that there is no one without the other. Still, I agree with other readers that there is an obvious alignment of the story with Eve, that’s just where the information was, but I don’t believe there was intentional disregard of Joan.
