This is cute but I wish there was more about (view spoiler)[ the sister plot. (hide spoiler)]

I read this so you don’t have to.

4.5/5 ☆

It started so slow and took me forever to even spark an interest. This was one of my first DNF’s. 🫤

A little slow starting out, but once it got going I really enjoyed this. Sam had a great character evolution from jerk to dream boat. I will say I was a little disappointed at the fade to black, but I know some people prefer it.

** spoiler alert ** The Stand-In – Lily Chu (Narrated by Phillipa Soo) Synopsis: Gracie Reed’s life is far from dazzling. She makes lists to keep her days on track, she’s saving money to get her mother into an excellent nursing home, and she’s getting by in her job. Except for the random man snapping a picture of her in a local coffee shop, things are okay, and Gracie’s (mostly) fine with that. Then her creep of a boss fires her, and Gracie finds herself with no plan and no direction. Until a black SUV pulls up beside her, revealing Sam Yao and Wei Fangli – two very famous Chinese actors – with an outlandish proposal. Turns out, that photographer in the coffee shop mistook her for Fangli, and now Fangli wants Gracie to be her stand-in. Of course, Gracie isn’t sure at first, but with no job and a dream for her mother, she finally agrees. Soon Gracie is sucked into a world of luxury that most people could only dream of, including being escorted everywhere by the oh-so-dreamy Sam Yao. “Being” Fangli is much harder than expected, and so is being near gorgeous and insufferable Sam. But Gracie is determined, especially after finding out the real reason behind this proposition. With so much at stake, Gracie will have to pull off the performance of a lifetime, making new friends and learning more about herself along the way. What I Liked: Phillipa Soo’s narration was incredible! She really brought this story to life Gracie and Fangli’s new friendship was easily the best part of the story The romance was sweet but predictable What I Disliked: I really loved the first half of the book, but the second half fell flat Miscommunication is my LEAST favorite trope. The problem could have been resolved so easily if they had just talked :( I predicted every plot twist pretty early on Rating: 3/5 stars

Predictable, boring, and annoying. The main character is completely bland and can't make a decision to save her life. Why did he fall for her again? Because I don't see it.
Following Fangli would've been much more interesting.

Loved it so much, there were so many memorable moments I couldn't help to feel the emotions. Thanks to the great performance of the narrator I was able to enjoy it from the start.
