I loved this book!

We all know that I am always down for a found family book. That goes 10x for a found family mid-grade! Any kid who is able to find a home that loves and accepts them just the way they are makes me weepy. And boy, this book definitely did that!

The characters were well done, I really enjoyed Red and how realistically 12 she felt. I think an older character would have not worked for this story, I think once you hit a certain point, your threshold of bullshit tolerance goes down and it just wouldn't have made this book the gem it was.

I'm not 100% sold on the magical aspects of this book? I suppose it lends to the idea of impossible things, but sans a few moments, it didn't really impact the story all that much. Saying that we should also note that I'm the kind of person who loves a fully explained magic system so this just BEING there was a little weird for me.

Overall, I really enjoyed this and I'm sure if I were in its target age demographic I would have enjoyed it even more!
