Dragon Kings Book One

This book started off well, but I really didn’t like Leto’s behaviour when it came to something specific and then I just stopped caring about his relationship with Audrey/Nynn (the same person but one is a human name and the other is a Dragon King name).

Audrey wakes up in a completely new place and different situation. She wants to find her son immediately, but there’s not much she can do so she lets Leto train her in the hopes that those skills will be useful when it comes to finding her son.

I liked Audrey and how she kept fighting, but I kind of lost interest when she started calling herself Nynn. She was brainwashed by an Indranan and even though later she becomes herself again, it felt a bit weird.

Leto was fine, but I had a problem with how he reacted to Nynn. He instantly knew that something was wrong after Audrey’s session with Ulia, and yet he helped them keep Nynn in the dark by refusing to acknowledge any questions or flashbacks she had. Also, while Nynn is brainwashed, he sleeps with her because he knows that he won’t have the chance to when she gets her memories back and goes back to hating him. Another example that kind of makes it worse is that he changes her tattoo from a serpent (the scientist’s family’s symbol) to a dragon so that she won’t have that permanently on her body because he knows that she’d hate that after her memories return. So, he could understand and make the right decision when it came to the tattoo, but was fine with taking advantage of her?

The ending was fine, but as soon as Jack is rescued, the book ends. There are so many questions left about what they’re all going to do now, and the book just ends. Where are Nynn and Jack going to live and what are they going to do? How is Leto going to adjust to a world that he has no clue about? He has one of his sisters with him, but what about the other family members?

I really liked the idea of this book at the beginning because it was different, and the situation was very complex. However, Leto’s decision made me disinterested in his relationship with Nynn, and I didn’t think the story was concluded in a way that was satisfactory.
