I grabbed this book right after I finished Terms of Enlistment, the first book in the series. I didn't like this one quite as well as the first.

Once again, I'm not really the target audience for books like this. I have almost no personal experience with the military and military service, and military jargon and tactics full of jargon make my eyes glaze over.

I felt like there was a lot more minutiae of military tactics, bureaucracy, and similar stuff in this book than there was in the first book. I started skimming over those parts because I just don't find them interesting. 

Once again, in this book, there's a big exciting ending that's obviously intended to make you grab the next book. I may come back to the series at some point in the future, but right now I'm surfeited by military stuff. 

Kloos writes very competently. I have no quibbles with his writing style. It just doesn't take much for me to get enough milSF.

Pretty good space opera. Fairly predictable, but enjoyable and fast paced nonetheless. I especially like Fallon. She's exactly how I expect hardened soldiers to be!
