In a suburb of a mid-sized American city, Ben and Mary welcome to the neighbourhood Sharon and Kenny who have moved in to the long-empty house next door. Fuelled by alcohol and backyard barbecues, their new friendship veers rapidly out of control as inhibitions are obliterated, laying bare the fragility of Ben and Mary's off-the-shelf lifestyle. Originally produced by Chicago's Steppenwolf Theatre, Lisa D'Amour's Detroit made its UK premiere at the National Theatre, London, in May 2012.
