This book was an easy read and did get me hooked, but the ending was so disappointing hence the 2 stars - I love Lisa Jewell but this one was just bland

Adrien's life seems to be almost perfect. Although he has had two unsuccessful marriages and is onto his third wife, Maya, all of the family gets along. The ex-wives and great with him at coparenting and they seem to bring Maya into the mix with their collective 5 children. It all seems like there is no hard feelings between anyone, but Lisa Jewell doesn't write thing how they all seem. Maya's life comes to an unfortunate end and Adrien doesn't seem to know how to cope with the accidental death. Many things come to light throughout the book, lives not as happy as they seem, secrets that almost died with Maya, end up being brought into the light. I didn't love the ending to this book. It just seems anticlimactic and there were just no *pizzazz*. I liked the book while I was reading it, wanting to find out all of the little things that this family was hiding, but it was just not as sinister as I wanted it to be. I had an inkling that this book would disappoint me and that's what I'm blaming for it taking me so long to read it. Not a bad read, but could've been more disturbing and less happy ending for me.

Thanks to NetGalley for the early copy. I've been trying to decide how I felt about this book since I finished it in the early hours of June 4. I wanted to rate this book lower, but then it really pulled me back in, which is why I stayed up reading. What an interesting story about a blended family. In most novels, there is no middle ground when it comes to blended families. Everyone hates or loves each other. Adrian's children were all believable and flawed and ultimately sympathetic. The pacing early on didn't quite grip me, but once I was able to tap into the children's viewpoints, I was hooked. Excellent viewpoint of the impact a father's inability to commit can have on all of the children. This family felt very alive to me, and that's no easy task.
