Reading a story that has a highlight about a dysfunctional family gave me that ick. It has a great storyline build-up, and I must say that Lisa Jewell did a great job at making me—as a reader—feel all the sort of disgust towards the characters, especially Josie (when the ending part was not yet revealed) AND of course, her pedophile husband. But even upon reading the plot twist in the ending part, which feels kind of rushed, I think I still loathe Josie for making such decisions on behalf of someone, which basically Alix never asked for. I think my takeaway lesson from this book is to never get easily fooled by someone else's kindness and never let a stranger walk into your life. That's basic knowledge, though, that anyone should know, but we'll never know how someone can be great at showing that they can be trusted, so never let your guard down.
intriguing enough that i binged it but the ending fell kinda flat
listened to this book on audio and was rly impressed w the production -- the book had a lot of podcast snippets / interview scenes so the audio format worked rly well. though this def didn't blow my socks away i was definitely pretty gripped from the beginning to the end. though i didn't forsee the plot twist coming, it wasn't entirely .. shocking ?? and also the nature of the twist kind of made way for the author to loosely "explain" possible plot holes, which is not my fav. wish the ending was more satisfying, but did enjoy the ride of this story !!!!
4.25/5 The most batshit crazy thriller I've ever read. Extremely captivating from the very start. the writing is cringy at times but I didn't even notice until we were reaching the conclusion because I was so invested!
Great book. I HIGHLY recommend the audiobook. It has a full cast and there are parts that play segments of a podcast that make it perfectly for an audiobook.

Wow. This book was hard to put down. Every chapter ended with you wanting to know what happens next.
i would never trust a person that invested in denim. enjoyed this.
