So I ended up DNFing at roughly 50%. As much as I wanted to like this book I found the Christian themes to be really overdone and corny. That is not to say that I don't like books with Christian themes, but that this book in particular did not depict said themes well.
For example, any time the main character is near one of the members of her brotherhood, she is filled with light and a sense of family. She feels God's touch as he constantly smiles down at her. That's all well and good, but about 40% of what I read was this type of description.

Season of Wonder's plot is literally exactly what the photo is about, right down to the vocabulary, and I could no longer take it seriously.

I cannot put into words how utterly disappointed I was with this book. This is the first Bergren book that I have not absolutely loved. In fact, I almost hated this book. It was pretty much horrible. Bergren's distopian world feels distinctly fantastical rather than distopian, especially with the "gifts" of the main characters. I had so hoped to read this book and be proven write in my belief that Christian authors can write decent distopian fiction as well. I cannot use this book as support for my argument. Bergren falls prey to countless Christian tropes and clichés, so many it's impossible to count. Her world-building was weak and vague. Her characters were stock. The romance was ridiculous. There is not a single thing about this book that I liked, enjoyed or appreciated. I do not understand how this book could have possibly been written by the author whose historical/time-travel young adult fiction that I absolutely loved. I pretty much hated this book and I don't say that often. I do not recommend at all.
