This first book in Liz Johnson’s new series is delightful. I loved the pacing of the storyline. The two main characters are refreshing because they are modern hardworking singles who have to work multiple jobs to make ends meet. Who better to go on a treasure hunt?!? Loved it!

Librarian: The decision about whether or not to purchase this book depends entirely on the type of library you work for and your evaluation of your patrons. For instance, a school or university librarian probably wouldn't order this book. The exception might be a Christian University that includes a fiction section in its library. A public library, on the other hand might choose to purchase this book, especially if the library is located in an area of the country with a majority Christian population. In that situation this Christian Mystery/Romance novel might be just the right book to choose to order.
Reader: I'm not a huge fan of this genre (romance isn't my thing), but I do read them quite a bit, and I have for my whole life (because Christian Mystery Romance is absolutely my Mom's genre). This is a fairly typical example of the breed. The emphasis is slightly more on the romance than normal, but it is otherwise fairly typical.

Millie Sullivan's grandmother is being kicked out of assisted living due to memory issues that require more care than they can give.  Millie doesn't have the money to send her someplace else even though she is already working 2 jobs.  When her grandmother tells her about a treasure that she believes is located at the historic St. Simmons Island resort in Georgia, Millie gets a job there and starts looking for the diary that her grandmother claims belonged to her mother and contains a treasure map.  Ben Thornton works security for the resort and spots Millie searching the library.  Instead of having her fired, Ben decides to help her find the map and the treasure because he has reasons of his own for needing the money.  Together, they begin a treasure hunt that leads to the history of Millie's family and the beginning of a new romance.

A Sparkle of Silver is the first in the Georgia Coast Romance Christian book series.  Unlike many other Christian novels, the religious aspects are subtle and do not disrupt the flow of the story.  Millie and Ben are likable characters whose insecurities make them seem more realistic.  Their romance is important to the plot, but the treasure hunt and repeated journal entries make it difficult for their romance to shine.  The story is cute but reads almost like YA with characters that are innocent to many of the realities of life even though some of the challenges they face are all too real.  Overall, A Sparkle of Silver is a light romantic suspense that is a quick, fun read.
