King of My Heart

King of my heart is the first book in rose’s duet. Please read the prequel novella for more information about rachel and rose’s dynamic. 

I just finished this book, and I have mixed feelings about this book. 

Spice :🌶️🌶️ (for me it was two, but the book is spicy with ff, mm, and mf scenes) 

Rating : ⭐⭐⭐ (the book was moderate) 

Tropes : dark romance, mafia gangs, contemporary, ffmm romance, touch her and die. 

Characters : i’m simplifying all of them in one. (Because I'm in a hurry to read the last book in this series) 

Rachel is the only character I liked in this whole book, it was disappointing to see sam wasn’t that interesting to read, and so was malik, but I liked samuel and malik’s dynamic, this book was also my first mm romance. Rose was just not likeable, for now. Maybe some time after, i’ll come to love her, but i dislike how much she thinks she is the king of it all. 

What I loved : just rachel and her parts in the book, lola’s writing is amazing as usual, but this book was just not that good for me. Lawless god, the fourth book in the north shore was the best, nathan white stole my heart and gave me stockholm syndrome and i still do not understand how he is manipulating me, but do I love it? Yes, i do. 

What I struggled with : i struggled with rose’s arrogance, she did go through trauma, and although I empathize, i couldn’t bring myself to like her. 

Objectively, she is a loveable character, and i thought that maybe when I read her book, i’d love her, but i can’t. I even like jade more, jade is the heroine from delightful sins, the third book in the north shore series. 

Conor is a bitch and someone needs to kill him for all the bruises he gave rachel without caring for her, and forcing her into an unwanted engagement. 

Samuel and malik were likeable okay, i just prefer Elliot and Ethan more than these two. 

Loveable characters or not : rachel was the only one I loved. 

Strong character development : there’s no character development here, rose is still the arrogant girl she is, she does not agree with be with samuel, malik or rachel, and the ending seems like she was the one playing the game all this time. 

It’s a cliffhanger slightly because we finally see the captor : viktor volkov..

Plot driven / character driven : lola’s writing. 

Any other details : i loved the reference of sam’s gun which had a rose, and “one last kill” written on it, sam loved rose, but he also messed up, he lied to his boyfriend malik, and did not tell him that he had missed rose the day she got kidnapped by the volkovs.

You know those addictive books well this is another one of them
Rose is a super badass character reminds me of one of my favorites Roxy from Den of Vipers
This book is a perfect blend of plot and spice what I love most about books is this
Represents the characters well as the more focused Rose
I liked them all but she was my favorite of them all.
It got a little dragged out in the middle of the book but I didn't get tired of it, I just loved reading more and more of it
I was attracted to him when I read Blurb(synopsis) for the first time, this is the first book I've read by Lola King and oh my god I haven't met her before
The perfection of writing to make us feel in the place of the book are few authors who do it with this perfection
I can only say that I'm looking forward to more
