It's good at first, but by Act 3 all the themes have been developed and the rest of the play is simply digging in further to the already-established ruts. 

This might be a play that really suffers in the reading as opposed to the performance.

Long Day's Journey into Nightwas written in 1940 but not staged until 1956, after O'Neil's death. Unashamedly autobiographical, it is, as he puts it himself in the dedicatory note, 'a play of old sorrow, written in tears and blood', a harrowing attempt to understand himself and his family.

Read this for class, not for me. I️ felt like there was no plot and it was just mainly character driven but in a slow decent into craziness. Too much back and forth, I️ couldn’t even finish this and had to spark note it..so bad!

I didn't hate this play in any way. Alas, I didn't like anything about it either.Which is quite sad, since one of his other works, Mourning Becomes Electra is one of my favorite plays of all time.
