Classic WoT formula for me. Reading fast at the beginning because you get small increments in each story and then can't put it down towards the end as it all comes to a head. Really enjoyed the reunion scenes, give you a real sense of the characters different individual journeys.

I was bored until about 60% of the way through the book, then I couldn't put it down.

wot look at me this isn't you. but this was so disappointing, to the point this is the worst wot book i've read until now, and i will elaborate. my biggest problem with this book is that nothing happens for 1,000 pages. nothing. i'm all for slow-paced and long books, i'm not someone who complains because of it. but if it's long and slow, you better have to tell me why it has been written that way and at least make it a bit entertaining. what i mean is, this book is building up to nothing. was it all for chapter 55? i loved it, the ending was really good and of course i'm picking up wot 7 but did you have to bore me to death to reach that point, RJ? the plot was very repetitive, the chapters were reduced to different characters' perspectives having internal monologues about what is happening, what is going to happen, what they think about rand (usually something bad, which bothers me too), and then having non-sensical arguments with their friends. nobody does anything, really. only rand. not even the main cast of characters save this, because a lot of them gave me nothing just like the plot. - i've said it, and i will say it again: rand is the best character in the entire series. i genuinely enjoy his povs, he has the most interesting psyche and if no one got me i know rand got me. he was the best thing of this book too and the one that kept me reading. i will do this for him. (view spoiler)[can i say how gross i felt everytime i remembered that alanna bonded rand as her warder against his will just to have some sort of control over him or knowing where he is at any moment? the subtext is... i get why rand didn't want to see her, i get why he ran away everytime her presence in his mind became unbearable for him. gross. i want alanna gone. and i miss moiraine so much. (hide spoiler)] - perrin. wow. this was a disappointment too. perrin is back after being absent in the fires of heaven so i was curious about the way he was going to be introduced again in the main plot and what his role was going to be. turns out, he gave me nothing! nothing. he appears and his plotline is, AGAIN, not knowing what to do because his now-wife faile is jealous over berelain showing interest in him. i thought this was solved in the shadow rising? why do i have to read the same embarrassing fights again? again, repetitive and annoying. after waiting for a whole book for him to come back, i ended up skipping entire paragraphs and pages from his povs. it was bad. he could've stayed home and it would've been the same. - nynaeve (and elayne) were okay. there is some progress with nynaeve's character arc which i love (view spoiler)[she healed logain!! and siuan and leane, but i was very excited for logain and the thought of his future alliance with rand and mazrim taim and the asha'man. i've been waiting for this (hide spoiler)], but not much really happens. they're searching for something, the aes sedai don't allow it, nynaeve gets mad and they try to find a solution to go get the thing. that's all. - mat. still not enough mat! i WILL say it again. there has been an improvement, and i like his new position in the story. he's actually one of the few characters, along with rand and nynaeve, that gets the thing going and that i consider essential in wot. - egwene got me on my nerves. i'm sorry, but i don't like her as a character at all. she has been okay until now, maybe in wot 5 i started to change my mind over her, but... yeah, no. everytime i had to read her povs with gawyn i wanted to end it all. (view spoiler)[her rise to the amyrlin seat was ridiculous. just because there has been foreshadowing since book 1 doesn't mean that it can happen in any way and be okay, because it's not! just as egwene felt, i thought it was a joke. but it was very real. too much of a plot device for my taste, too hasty in the overall plot. i don't know about other readers, but making something so big and important happen to one of the main characters without a sense of reward is just bad writing. of course all of this is justified with rand being ta'veren and a friend of egwene. i'm not against egwene becoming the new amyrlin, i'm against the way it was done and the timing. (hide spoiler)] not only the plot was repetitive, but also the dialogues and conversations! 90% of them were a modified version of "men are so stupid when they don't do what we want" among women and "lmao women are sooo weird i'll never understand what they mean are they speaking in a different language?" among men. we get it. men stupid women weird. i don't have to read the same thing over and over again. i think that's it. of course i'm going to continue wot because i genuinely enjoy the story and rand is becoming one of my favorite characters, but this wasn't it. i wanted to get it out of my chest, and now i will give the series some time. it was hard to get through it, and i don't want to start the #7 with this mentality and feeling burned-out.

What a strong ending to the book. I keep thinking I am going to take a break and read something shorter, but the ending of these books make me want to pick up the next book immediately! I loved books 2-3, and this one is up there with it. I think on a re-read (in the faaaaaaar future) some of this content will be my favorite because so much character development has happened over the last few books.

3.5 Stars. As usual the first 600 pages were slow but still excellent world/character building, the last 400ish were non-stop action. Love.

Politics! Politics everywhere! Not sure what book y’all read, but I felt the progression of plot via the characters being pushed towards who and where they need to be. A slow read and not my absolute favorite, but Lord of Chaos has some of my favorite scenes and I enjoy Jordan’s pacing even though this one was a little awkwardly handled. The last chunk picked up and held as much stress as I can handle for these characters who have become apart of me — I definitely do not mind the slower parts in contrast to that! I am looking forward (and dreading) to see where they will all be in the end.

I really enjoyed this despite it not having my favorite character. It started out a bit slow but I felt like it picked up a lot by the second half. Really enjoyed the focus on the Aes Sedai.

** spoiler alert ** Quite a few slog moments, but overall this is by far one of my top 3 is this series so far. A lot of extra pages with seemingly useless info (we’ll see if it pays off) but sooooo much progression with a lot of the characters and the various plot lines in general. I have fun imagining when and how the various character lines will cross again, and most them them are great in this book. Loving Nynaeve’s skill progression in this one. Epic Egwene moment as well with her being raised up. Elayne is still a brat and I like her less here. I wish Mat had more progression in this but I still enjoy him as one of my favs. Maybe becoming a ‘dad’ will change him LOL Happy to see Loial again though he is taking a backseat role for the most part. Perrin is dope still. Many people consider him boring but I like him a lot. A little underwhelmed with Min’s vision of his 2 birds fighting cause the 2 birds in his life are meh right now. Faile is frustratingly annoying with her passive aggressiveness, hate her most of the time but Perrin makes me tolerate. Rand’s progress has gone beyond annoyance with me and I’m enjoying seeing what’s going to happen next as he gets to understand his role and carves his path to Tarmon Gai’din. A lot of jumping around and stupidity but I get why it’s there. I also appreciate many of the secondary characters now. Sulin, Taim, etc etc etc

Maybe I'm just burning out on the series, or maybe it's that I read this aloud to the family at a time when we had lots of interruptions that slowed us down and made it take a long time to get through the book, but I found this one less satisfying than the others so far. Maybe it would've seemed a better book to me if I'd read it over the course of a week instead. It doesn't help that I'm not even at the midpoint of the series yet and this one felt sort of meh. I'm taking a break from the series to try some other stuff for a while, and I'm not sure I'll come back to the series, as I've heard that some of the later books get sort of re-hashy.

We are always more afraid than we wish to be, but we can always be braver than we expect. Hold on to your heart, and the Aes Sedai cannot harm what is really you, your heart. They are not nearly so far above us as we believed.
