Losing the Field
Reviews

Had a feeling this one was going to annoy me and it found ways to do that. The revenge weight loss story is not usually one I would enjoy because of how crude it usually feels. It was really hard for me to enjoy the book and like the characters when I barely saw a change in them as the story progressed. It also felt like we were putting way too much in here at the same time with the student/teacher situation but barely gives a full conclusive end. Again it ended quite abruptly because of assumptions that felt so out of left field were “talked through” when the book ended. Just a strange one that made it difficult for me to get behind.

I had been waiting for the release of this book since I finished the third in this series. This one was my least favorite so far. I'm not going to go into detail about this book because its the fourth in the series. But, as always, Abbi Glines presents some heavier topics that her characters struggle with. There were just some aspects in this book that I didn't really care for. I still plan on reading the next installment of this series. This one just wasn't one of my favorites.

Why I read this book: Small town romance Sports romance This book inspired me to: Try and understand why people like football Favorite Quote: “To the reader who has been hurt by words” Favorite Moment Water tower bonding Summary: Nash Lee’s plan for his life has always revolved around football, until a career-ending injury. Tallulah has always had a soft spot for Nash, the only boy to treat her with kindness, until the day that Tallulah witnesses Nash join in a laugh at her expense. When school starts back up the next Fall, both Nash and Tallulah find themselves navigating new identities and experiences with everything around them being the same. Review: I was apprehensive about picking up this book due to the weight loss storytime. Ultimately I think that this storyline could have been handled much better; what message does it send that Tallulah lost weight and suddenly all the bodies are fawning over her? I think that the book would have been better had Tallulah never lost the weight but rather gained confidence. The plotline with Tallulah and her teacher's grooming behavior was interesting and the grooming behavior depicted was very accurate. There was some intriguing commentary about the vulnerability created by naivety. I hated Nash’s reaction to the very apparent grooming and the book would have been much improved by Nash’s immediate support or intervention. The subplot with the influences was a little interesting, but ultimately I didn’t connect with it. Honestly, that entire plotline could have been cut out and I think the book would have been better. I looked at how inherently kind Nash was because it showed how drastically Nash’s injury affected him.

considering this a ya series i think the author should have promoted healthy relationships a bit more. none of the fmc in any of the books have had a single friend? it makes it hard to look over when the characters couldn’t find one girl to become friends with in the entire town

** spoiler alert ** 3/5 ⭐️ First of all, I feel bad for Tallulah and relate to her. It sucks. It’s disgusting how people take interest to her after she loses weight. I understand that Nash has to suffer with a limp the rest of his life but he needs to get over it. He couldn’t lost his leg, or died. Not being able to play football should be the LEAST of his concerns. The fact that Nash clearly sees the coach make a move and BLAMES Tallulah is disgusting. SHE gets taken advantage of; by the coach. And OF COURSE she is to blame. Sure you would watch but you won’t stop him? He knew what the coach was and tried to ‘hint’ it to Tallulah but could have just plain out told her. Tallulah was clearly oblivious and yet he blames her. He doesn’t deserve her. The fact that he was ghosting her and he was treating her like nothing and then wonders why she won’t talk to him or me up with him. The ending was thrown all together. She would have never in her right mind even consider taking him back that quickly. And don’t get me started on Pam. I cannot stand her. She clearly saw but was too much of a pick-me girl to care. I was actually kind of excited to read this book because I could relate to it. But this is just… I cannot even stand it. I’m done, I’m just done. Her mother is such a child. Making her be nice to the everyone and Nash as if they didn’t make her life a living hell. I’m not even going to get started on the coach. The only good thing was probably Haegan and of course he died. Cause the good characters are never spared.

Did she really have to bring up her weight loss anytime any guy tried to give her attention? I'm glad this wasn't the same as the other 3 books they were getting repetitive. I really liked it. The field party books always leave me wanting more. What happens after. I NEED to know. give me a damn epilogue atleast. *spoiler* The teacher part was umm interesting. When they started accusing her I wanted to throw hands with the whole student body.

nashhh. god how i love him. why isn’t anyone talking about them? they’re so cute pls. also this book was so frustrating and made want to punch every single character. and i’m kinda hating the way these books end, like give them at least one happy ending chapter?

This is my favourite of the series so far!!

Abbi Gaines is back at it again. She has created another book in the The Field Party series. And it is Nash Lee story. Get ready for it. I have always been interested in Nash Lee character since he was so present in the past book. Nash Lee has always been the funny yet beautiful boy but lately things changes dramatically. Nash Lee has suffered a recent injury that he is not playing football anymore. It definitely changes him because football was his life that he does not know who he is. But don’t worry, he finds himself new friends especially in Tallulah. Tallulah has faced a hard time in her teenager years but things are looking up for her. But she does notice that Nash is not himself that she is willing to help him because she deeply cares for him (when she does not want too but does). They unexpected fall into a easy friendship that turns into something more. But nothing is never easy especially in Abbi Gaines books. Tragedy occurs that it is going to through them into the loop. It will definitely changes them but it is up to them to realize who they are and what they are meant for each other. Losing the Field is a good slow paced romance story. I wish there was a little more so the characters would developed a little more to my taste. But it is a good book to read in the series. 3 1/2 Stars
