           This book caused me so much turmoil I really felt like I was going through the emotions with rose
(In the scene where she went to hug the actress but it was actually her husband, I felt her fall to the floor before I read the words. The sheer exhaustion of the deceit and constant chase caused such hopelessness it was palpable.)
What Louisa did that was so impressive is she let you sympathize with her character all the while giving you that belief that it would work out and then every time a plan is foiled the readers resolve weakens little by little so that when Rose ends up in the mental Asylum I just cried the entire time and when she was betrayed AGAIN! I just got so tired of hating and I felt that with her.
A part of me had a hard time understanding her husbands motivation to be so extreme and not just go find another pretty young thing but his relentlessness made for a gripping novel
In general I don't have much criticism except maybe the racist remarks and just constant stereotyping of everyone but that's a product of the time.
(Also there was one line where it said he had neveer sung for her before when that simply isn't true)
