Waffled between 2 and 3 stars. I enjoyed the political backdrop with post-Civil War reconstruction as well as the newspaper industry angle. I also liked some of the early interactions between the H and h. On the downside, it seemed like these 2 had complete personality changes at points in the book. Heath went from being playful and charming to quiet, cold, and angry and Lucy went from being confident and happy to insecure and angry. THen back again. A few times. I also didn't like a scene with serious consent issues I was also not a fan of the revelation that Heath engineering things to get together with Lucy (trying to avoid spoilers), who was already engaged to Daniel. Speaking of, poor Daniel. He came across as such a condescending pratt to modern sensibilities, which was probably (sadly) the norm for the time period. It was frustrating to see Lucy put up with it but again, this is how things were in the "good old days". Sigh. Overall, I'd call this one a missed opportunity to tell a great story, but it wasn't awful.

I adored this one SO much. Heath has my whole heart! This is easily the best of Lisa Kleypas' older historical romances for me.
