Lover at Last

Lover at Last Black Dagger Brotherhood #11

J.R. Ward2013
Qhuinn, son of no one, is used to being on his own. Disavowed from his bloodline, shunned by the aristocracy, he has finally found an identity as one of the most brutal fighters in the war against the Lessening Society. But his life is not complete. Even as the prospect of having a family of his own seems to be within reach, he is empty on the inside, his heart given to another.... Blay, after years of unrequited love, has moved on from his feelings for Qhuinn. And it’s about time: it seems Qhuinn has found his perfect match in a Chosen female, and they are going to have a young. It’s hard for Blay to see the new couple together, but building your life around a pipe dream is just a heartbreak waiting to happen. And Qhuinn needs to come to terms with some dark things before he can move forward… Fate seems to have taken these vampire soldiers in different directions... but as the battle over the race’s throne intensifies, and new players on the scene in Caldwell create mortal danger for the Brotherhood, Qhuinn finally learns the true definition of courage, and two hearts who are meant to be together... finally become one.

REVIEW OF THE SERIES AS A WHOLE This is a spoiler filled review so stopped if you haven't read the series. I really wanted to love this series. I didn't write individual reviews of this books throughout the whole series, but I can't stand it anymore, I need to vent out and say what I hated about this series and what I loved. Firstly, I want to say that if you're a paranomal fan and a romance fan this is you're type of book. Now, I am neither, so when I read the first one and I found myself enjoying it I was surprised. The reason why even though I didn't loved this books I continue on reading them was, the characters. (view spoiler)[ What I love about this series: - The characters in this series are amazing, they all have great story lines. They make you sympathize with them and what to know what will happen later on. - The different points of view, I loved how everyone has a POV in this books, even the bad guys. What I hate about this series: - The tortured, I-am-the-worst, I-don't-deserve-happiness vibe ALL of the characters have going on. With the first book, it was okay if wrath hated himself, I could understand it. With the second, of course rhage hated himself because of his curse. But them we have vishous with his 'curse', zsadist with being a blood slave, rhevenge been a sympath, phury been celibate, payne not being girly, qhuinn and his eyes, etc. All of them have emotional issues and that's okay, but I couldn't stand that in every single book it was not about them falling in love, but about them accepting love. And they had to accept love because they did everything possible not to. And it got boring pretty quickly. In every single book the main character spends the whole time running from his other half and only in the last couple of pages, does he realized he can't run from love. This could have been a great series if it didn't felt that the romance was the same, it only changed the people who were in love in each book. (hide spoiler)] For me, the romance ruined the books.

My rating is solely based on the whole Qhuinn and Blay romance. I feel like I waited forever for their story and I was pretty much pleased with it. I love these two boys and I look forward to reading more about them in future books. ________________________- 29 July 2019 Blay and Qhuinn, finally. Assail and Sola I'm curious about. Trez, what is going on? B.o.B, ehh. I just wish there weren't so many storylines going on all at once.

Don’t get me wrong I love the BDB, but after revisiting this book a second time I’m unhappy with where this series has gone. I have loved Blay and Qhuinn from the beginning and their book was utter BS. Maybe 1/4 of the book was actually about them? They deserved more. Also where they heck was John?! I get we need to get invested in new couples for the series to continue, but it’s getting to be too much. I needed more Qhuinlock (?) and felt like I got more of their story in other books. I’ve never made it further than this book in the series and now I remember why.

SPOILERS.......................... OMFG Finally Quinn and Blay have their time. Man there were some bumps in the road for those two. Quinn has finally realized that he has a family that loves him and that he doesn't have to prove anything and I think that he realized that at the bar after their BIG fight in the clinic. I am glad he has his brother back but what will become of him. Layla and the young seems to be doing good but it could become awkward with Xcor trying to get into the picture, how in the world will that work. I think Assial and Sola need their own book I mean I was getting caught up in their story too and to just me hanging on them..great way to tease us Warden...I had a moment when they put Quinn into the Brotherhood and he deserved it..I could not help but smile the whole last part of the book and I am so glad that Blay's parents doesn't care what anyone thinks and I could just imagine Quinn in that tux. I cant wait to see what is next although I do see some characters getting their own books. Like Assial and Sola..Trez and Selena...Xcor..
