Lovesickness: Junji Ito Story Collection
Reviews

junji ito never fails to entertain me

weird and creepy and compelling. even though some stories were naturally better than others in my opinion overall i enjoyed them enough the ones that mixed horror with humour were personally my favourites like the one with narumi's brothers which was simultaneously hilarious and creepy <3

Lovesickness, loving you to the death. Yes, i more love the first story , lovesickness than the other 2. Sedikit bikin terkejut dan kebayang panel bunuh diri massalnya 🙂🙂

The original story, which runs for about four chapters here, had a really good start, but an incomprehensible reveal. Like just straight up incomprehensible to me. I almost liked the pretty boy on the crossroads until ummmmmmm (view spoiler)[he got an entire crowd of girls to kill themselves which turned me off faster than you can ask for a fortune (hide spoiler)]. The other stories are shorter and generally okay. The atmosphere and art in all of these are fantastic and though the full spread of monstrous-looking people doesn't always hit, when it DOES it's just absolutely chill-inducing. That being said I can't tell if Junji Ito hates women or gets women so much that everything revolving around women and womanhood here (which is like just about every story - and you could stretch it so far as to say that the story with the sensitive boy who absorbs the pain all around himself was inspired by women or things said about women as well) is depicted with a chilling accuracy. I can honestly not tell; I think it's sort of both, to be quite honest.

Pretty good anthology. The premise of Locesickness doesn't overstay its welcome. The Hikizuri Siblings (With a very Junji Ito looking head of the family) is fun and Addams familylike. And there's a few short stories in addition too.

This was my first Junji Ito and I really enjoyed it!

I was enjoying the first half the stories were really interesting. But when it changed…I was getting real uncomfy and sad. And then the last story??? Yeah it just threw me off. So not my fave, but I don’t love spooky genres usually. I am a baby but also I feel like the plot lines aren’t my favorite.

3.5 stars

One of my Top 2 Junji Ito stories alongside some pretty good shorts.
