A bit of a dark thriller here. I'm sensitive to foul language in the books I read, so this pushed the limit for me. I enjoyed the perspective in which the book was written, and I came away having enjoyed the trip. I didn't like the twist as much as I was expecting, perhaps because it was sold as a book with a twist ahead of time, so I had built it up in my mind. This was probably my first fiction read by an indie author, and I was impressed. I'll definitely be looking to read more indie fiction.

At first I thought ‘meh’. I have never enjoyed (more like was always annoyed at) journal-style-written books. Or those who told the whole story via letters.

But this one got a hold of me and I soon didn’t even notice the journal-writing anymore. This may have to do with Jake’s voice. I really liked how he comments on various things like boys looking up girls’ skirts and the like.

But aside from that his development was portrayed realistically and the ending satisfied me. Casting shadows everywhere is a book I would have loved to read for school but it is suited for older people, too.

I’d like to mention triggers though. Of course violence as it is said in the description. The one I didn’t expected was eating disorders so please prepare yourself for that. It is no big part of the story but better safe than sorry right?
