*I received this book from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review* Zoe Montgomery is a successful woman. She has her own mystery shopping agency, which is very profitable, and she has a doctorate, but none of that seems to impress her old boarding school colleagues. They are only impressed by each other’s husbands and children, and Zoe doesn’t even have a boyfriend… Her plan to impress the colleagues that bullied her in high school, by demonstrating that she has overcome the past and the abuses and became a successful business woman, has failed miserably, so is it any wonder that she’s abused the wine? And that she has had the sad idea to announce that she is not single, and then walk towards a very attractive man that has just walked into the bar where she and her former colleagues are reunited, and kiss him? But when Zoe explains to him the trouble she’s gotten herself into he agrees to pretend to be her boyfriend for one night. However, for him to end the night proposing marriage is something not even Zoe expected… Dan Forrester has been burned before. His previous girlfriend sold the story of their courtship to the tabloids and, ever since, Dan is extremely careful in his interactions with women he doesn't know because the fact that he is a highly successful advertiser and considered the most eligible bachelor in London makes him an incredibly attractive target to the paparazzi. So how was it that he got swept away by Zoe’s story? The only possible explanation is that the kisses they exchanged left him pining for more… And that is why he asks her out at the end of the night, but Zoe refuses. But when the next morning the tabloids publish the news of his engagement, Dan realizes the madness of his actions the previous night and is fast to issue a press release denying it. And when Zoe receives the news by the one colleague that tormented her the most at school, she has a cathartic moment and tells her all the things she always wanted to say. And ends up thinking she should have accepted Dan’s invitation so she decides to find him and propose a no-strings-attached relationship. However, the more time they spend together, and the better they get to know each other, the more they start liking each other so maybe a no-strings attached relationship is impossible for them. But the tabloids’ press is always lurking around and will their relationship be strong enough to survive a new scandal? A sweet romance that has a funny and credible premise (it’s not easy being the only single woman and all the conversations being about babies, believe me) that explores the harassment of the paparazzi to public figures and that is particularly aggressive in London, where the story takes place.
