Anne's House of Dreams

heel mooie nieuwe setting maar waar zijn Annes ambities heen🥹

Anne and Gilbert join in domestic harmony in this artfully packaged edition of the fourth book in the Anne of Green Gables series. Anne is marrying Gilbert Blythe! While she’s deliriously happy to finally be with her version of Prince Charming, she’s devastated when she learns that they will be making their new home miles away from her beloved Avonlea. But Anne is always up for an adventure, especially when she has Gilbert by her side. The newlyweds settle right in to their house of dreams. Anne couldn’t be more content—the house is darling and fits all of her lofty requirements: a bubbling brook running through the property, lots of lovely trees, and close proximity to a beautiful old lighthouse and the sea. In true Anne fashion she immediately makes new friends, including salty Captain Jim, beautiful but tragic Leslie Moore, and prim and proper Miss Cornelia Bryant. While Anne’s days are filled with triumphs and tragedies, her imagination, spirit, and sense of humor guide her as she navigates this next chapter in her extraordinary life. This addition to the renowned Anne of Green Gables series makes a wonderful gift and keepsake.

Anne seems so out of character in this book.

Gilbert Blythe is finally a doctor, and at long last he and Anne are ready to say their vows. Soon husband and wife will be bound for a new life together in their own house of dreams, on the shores of Four Winds Harbor, near Gilbert's new medical practice in the village of Glen St. Mary.
Of course, a new life brings fresh surprises and fresh problems to solve. Anne and Gilbert soon find themselves entangled in the lives of their neighbors, including the lighthouse attendant, Captain Jim, with his sad stories of the sea; Miss Cornelia Bryant, a formidable woman who always speaks her mind; Owen Ford, who longs to write the Great Canadian Novel; and the tragically beautiful Leslie Moore, to whom Anne grows closer when her own perfect life is touched by heartbreak.

I thought I had never read this book, but I was evidently mistaken! Every book in this series has it’s share of ups and downs, but this installment had the most devastating heartbreak. There was heartbreak on more than one front, but beauty and healing were still right around the corner. Here we have Anne fully grown and embarking on married life. Her joys are now deeper, but her sorrows are those of an adult, as well. She manages to deal with them gracefully, and makes some remarkable new friends in the process. Captain Jim is a lovely man, and I thoroughly enjoyed him. I’ve been enjoying this series immensely, but this particular book was definitely sadder than preceding novels. Only three more to go! And I'm positive I've never read these last three. Really, I am. XD

Anne’s House of Dreams' is book five in the ‘Anne of Green Gables’ series. It chronicles Anne’s early married life, as she and her childhood sweetheart Gilbert Blythe begin to build their life together. In Four Winds, Anne and Gilbert meet many interesting people, such as Captain Jim, a former sailor who is now the keeper of the lighthouse, and Miss Cornelia Bryant, an unmarried woman in her 40’s who lives alone in an emerald-green house. This early work by Lucy Maud Montgomery was originally published in 1917 and we are now republishing it with a brand new introductory biography. Lucy Maud Montgomery was born on 30th November 1874, New London, in the Canadian province of Prince Edward Island. Her mother, Clara Woolner (Macneil), died before Lucy reached the age of two and so she was raised by her maternal grandparents in a family of wealthy Scottish immigrants. In 1908 Montgomery produced her first full-length novel, titled 'Anne of Green Gables'. It was an instant success, and following it up with several sequels, Montgomery became a regular on the best-seller list and an international household name. Montgomery died in Toronto on 24th April 1942.

This book is so moving, I cried several times. It does feel as though the story is moving away from Anne, as I've found each book held less of her and more of other characters, which is a bit heart-breaking, but the characters here are some of my favorite "secondary" actors in the Green Gables books. Captain Jim in particular is a gem.

Anne of Green Gables, the orphan girl who lives on Prince Edward Island, experiences romance as she begins her years of young adulthood.

I think this might be my favourite of the Anne of Green Gable's books. It was so lovely to see her with Anne in their new home! All the new characters were a pleasure to hear from, especially Captain Jim although it was a shame to no longer have Diana and Marilla such integral parts of the story (but I guess just as people grow and move on, Anne must move on with her life)

In this continuation of the Anne of Green Gables series, Anne's true love, Gilbert Blythe, is finally a doctor. In the sunshine of the old orchard, among their dearest friends, they are about to speak their vows. Soon the happy couple will be bound for a new life together in their house of dreams, on the misty purple shores of Four Winds Harbour. But a new life means new problems to solve, and new surprises. Anne and Gilbert make new friends and neighbors: Captain Jim, the lighthouse attendant, with his sad stories of the sea; Miss Cornelia Bryant, a lady who speaks her mind; and the tragic beauty Leslie Moore, into whose dark life Anne shines a brilliant light. This is a book of joys and troubles, changes and revelations.
