EMILY CHABOT: The Life of a California Lady

Beautiful, gracious, gregarious Emily Chabot emigrated as a small child from France to San Francisco in 1851. The heiress to considerable property, she married Remi Chabot, the younger brother of Anthony Chabot, in 1870, and became a prominent member of her community-entertaining diplomats, inventors, business tycoons and impoverished emigres with equal cordiality. A strong feminist, she was especially generous to women artists and scientists, and joined other notable women in the East Bay in sponsoring philanthropic causes. This is the story of Emily's remarkable life and her legacy to the history of California.
