Overall I liked this one - more than I expected to tbh. Scarlett is definitely an interesting character and I liked the dynamic between her and her brothers. I haven't spent time in West Virginia so I can't tell how much of the setting, dialogue, and WV small town life is rendered realistically vs stereotypically but regardless, I admit I enjoyed "Bootleg justice!" as a battle cry whenever folks took matters into their own (often fight-y) hands to solve problems. :) I wasn't really expecting this one to take a hard turn into a mystery subplot so initially it felt like it came out of nowhere and felt inorganic to the main plot, but I suppose I got over it since I'd like to continue with the series. According to the notes in the back of the book, the mystery sub plot will span the entire series so if the idea of that annoys you, you've been warned.
