This is my favorite Experiment in Terror book so far. The pacing was great, I loved that Perry was feeling comfortable in her own skin and Dex was opening up to her, (view spoiler)[ though I Hated what she did with the pills (hide spoiler)]. I was just loving it and then at the end Karina Halle rips my heart out of my chest. 

And I can't wait for more.

Okay friends, this is more of an update than a review! I'm going to take a break from the Experiment in Terror Series! *cue gasps from friends* Key word being "break". I am by NO MEANS done with this series. I plan to read a couple of books, then come back to these. I am 100 percent caught up in the story of Dex and Perry, but I just can't get aboard the Dex Foray train right now. Don't get me wrong, I get the appeal. He is a lovable guy who you can't help but kinda like. For me personally however, he just drove me crazy! I loved him at times, he could make me cry with some of his sweeter moments, but overall it's just really hard rooting for him after everything he's put Perry through. I've rooted for him for 4 novels, and yet he continues to piss me off. I don't think that's normal for others. I think most peoples opinions on Dex are already cemented from the first couple books. Maybe Dex Foray just isn't for me... (I'm sure some of you ladies are loving that, now we don't have to share him) ;)

Overall, this is a great series, and I recommend them whole-heartedly! I really enjoyed what I read, and I'm going to miss the characters while I take a break, but I think it's for the best. Maybe I'll be able to handle Dex better, if I take a break and then come back to him. 

Let me give you some reasons for me being frustrated:WARNING SPOILERS AHEAD!

(view spoiler)[-Anonymous cyber bully: Whew, this was one of the breaking points for me! Honestly, I was willing to overlook pretty much everything that Dex had done up until this point. I was even able to handle the fact that he was using Perry for his show. This part just broke me. I can't stand the fact that he stayed with Jenn knowing that she was harassing/makikng fun of Perry. Why didn't Dex confront Jenn about what she had done? Why did he stay with her? He could have broken up with her and been alone. He didn't have to continue to stay. Not to mention, that Dex knew it was causing Perry distress. Here's how I look at it. YES, they weren't together at the time. However, it was very obvious that they both wanted to be together and it was obvious that Dex had feelings for Perry. Why would he be trying to protect Jenn over Perry? That was just unacceptable to me. I can't handle that coming from a hero especially considering the way it was just brushed over.

She’s my girlfriend. You’re my partner. What was I supposed to do? Who was I supposed to protect?” 

Me, I thought. You were supposed to protect me. I closed my eyes, feeling stupid. Of course he was right. He had to choose one of us. It would be her. Why on earth would it ever be me?




Ending: This is what I was afraid would happen. Dex never would have broken up with Jenn, if Jenn hadn't wanted to end things with him. Why do I say that? I say that because if you pay attention to the end of the novel, there is a scene where Dex is singing karaoke and he's singing a love song. He goes over to Jenn trying to woo her over. This is after finding out that Jenn was probably cheating on him. After Jenn dismisses him, he THEN gives his attention to Perry. He was trying to make things work with Jenn first. It just upset me. I wanted Dex to choose Perry over Jenn. I wanted him to choose her. Not as a last resort, but as a first choice. I'm sad to say I was disappointed over that fact. It's not that I doubt that Dex loves Perry, because I think in his own way, he does! I just think that he doesn't love her enough. In my opinion. 

"Then he turned to Jenn. And, at the most dramatic part, he belted the song out…to her. His voice soared, his eyes fixed on her and she…she just looked away. She looked at Bradley. And as much as I hated the fact that Dex tried one last attempt to “woo” Jenn or
make things right with her, it broke my heart to see his beautiful effort going to waste right in front of him."


I know that he has a messed up past and things with Abby make him want to be careful but it doesn't excuse what he did. This was just the nail in the coffin for me. I couldn't enjoy the scene that took place in the kitchen shortly after, for this scene was still on my mind. Shame.



Anyways, this isn't a rant about the novel. It was beautifully written, and I am looking forward to continuing the series at a later time after I've cooled down a bit. I'm sorry ladies that recommended it to me!! I can see why you loved it, and I'm so sad that I can't join the Dex ship with you all right now! #OddGirlOut (hide spoiler)]
