Last weekend I went to see the famous play “The Vagina Monologues” (which was AMAZING) and it made me realize how little the society or us women talk about vulvas, vaginas, our periods, menopauses, and sexual pleasures. It feels good to say these words out loud. There are so many myths and mistruths out there. Women’s sexuality is still taboo, penis-in-vagina orgasm is still regarded as the norm catered to male sexuality. We still reflexively feel ashamed of our body parts, mostly because growing up we were conditioned that way. Do we, as women, even know our bodies properly? Growing up I never had any proper sex education - for a long time I thought if I held hands with a boy I’d get pregnant (and girls were warned so much about accidental pregnancy that nobody ever informed them that fertility could be a big issue one day). This book filled all that gap. I wish this kind of contents existed when I was a teenager. And I hope teenagers today get to access them.
