Accidentally Amy
Reviews

Way too insta-lovey and way too many uses of “Ohmigod”.
I just honestly didn’t care about the characters and found myself skimming the last few chapters. The dialogue felt very cringe and the whole thing was just kind of icky.
I am choosing to mentally remove this from Lynn Painter’s discography because she is otherwise one of my favourite authors. I think she just does young adult romcom far, far better than adult romance because Izzy felt like an overgrown teenager.

this book was not Lynn Paintering for me

See I was bracing myself the whole time, waiting for cringe to kick in, but it never did. This is cute without the cringe. And so funny too and I love love love their relationship and her quirky self and the P&P, Clark Kent and Taylor Swift references. Mr Chest had me squealing and giggling and kicking my feet.

I liked it, but it wasn’t nearly as well-written as the author’s other novels.

I liked the characters and the banter and the premise but it was badly edited and the author kept saying “gawwwddddd” which gave me the Ick.

Lynn Painter is the queen of RomCom banter...like I smile the entire time I read her books because the characters are so funny.

This book is far from perfect, but I was ok with it because it was entertaining. I did feel less 'ok' with it every time I had to read "ohmigod" and "gawwd" (yes, spelled like that). Other than that, it's a pretty easy read and a good palate cleanser for my romance comrades. Don't expect anything other than that because this book has a lot of flaws that won't be easy to overlook if you bring high hopes for this journey.

higher rating solely for the fact i listened to the audiobook and was able to dissociate during all the embarrassing dialogue

They’re hot because of the slow burn. Their banter sometimes was just too much for me.

This book was cute. Very fall vibes and quite literally-as much as I hate to say this- a filler book. It did help get me out of the WORSTTTT reading slump tho so props to that! I had very big expectations. I read up to chapter 7 before the book came out so I was expecting a lot since the first few chapters were exciting.
Blake and Izzy were really cute, I can’t deny that. Very insta love, which I’m not a huge fan of. The Taylor Swift references (which Lynn is known for) were very much welcomed and they had a lot of really sweet moments. Their meet cute?? Ahh so so cute. And I loved their banter sooo much.
What I didn’t like about the book was how Blake had hated how Izzy had lied about being Amy because his “ex fiancé” was a liar- Which also why was that included because it had no relation to the plot whatsoever- and then proceeded to forgive her literally a page later? 💀 there was also little to zero conflict in the book which I don’t have an issue with.
Like I said, this is a great filler book, the perfect length and generic characters. Nothing special like I hoped to get from Lynn but still a solid read.

“She stopped and looked at him, eyebrows crinkled together. “The Darkling is sitting on your lap.”
“Why does that conjure the unfortunate image of Ben Barnes reclining on my thighs?” She smiled.
“He hates everyone - even me, half the time.”
BB y’know what, I’ll take it.

“Yeah - she owes me,” the guy said, smiling like it was no big deal.
“Tell her The Darkling puked on my bed today, so I’m collecting.” What the hell had she named after General Kirigan?
“And you are…?”
“Oh, my God, clearly an asshole,” he said, and shifted the stolen items to his left hand.
He extended his right and said, “I’m Josh - her cousin. I live upstairs.”
THERE’S NOBODY CALLED KIRIGAN. SO OBVIOUSLY WE KNOW HE DIDNT READ S&B BOOKS SMH.

“Blake: Absolutely bizarre, yet I feel the EXACT same way. I think we might’ve eaten spoiled meat or something.
Izzy: For sure. This whole thing is either love or spoiled meat.
Blake: Well, then - I spoiled meat you.
Izzy: I spoiled meat you, too.”
this actually got me squealing

“You told me ‘bout your past, thinking your future was me - the lyric came at him out of nowhere. ”
our little swiftie blake

“Never, in his wildest dreams, would he have imagined that hauling a woman with an armful of flowers around on his back while dodging face painters and balloon-animal artists would go down as one of his very best days.”
that’s cute
