I hadn't realized it then, but she'd been laying the groundwork during every one of those summers we'd spent together, setting the prec- edent for what my type was.

genuinely one of my favourite books along with betting on you it was nice that they didnt randomly ghost each other like the rest of the books from lynn painter

A New York Times bestseller! From the #1 New York Times bestselling author of Better Than the Movies Lynn Painter comes a heartfelt and banter-filled rom-com about childhood sweethearts whose icy reunion in their hockey-loving hometown unexpectedly thaws when they fake a romantic relationship. Growing up, Dani couldn’t help but follow around the adorable son of her mom’s best friend. Funny, kind of nerdy, and a little soft, Alec was always down to hang with Dani when they were little. From play dates on the playground to sneaking into movie theaters, Dani and Alec were inseparable. Until Dani moved away. Alec promised they’d stay in touch—except, they didn’t. Flash forward and Dani is back in Minnesota for her senior year, she and her mom living with her grandfather. Dealing with the fallout of her parents’ devastating divorce, Dani wouldn’t mind a nerd-out with the cozy and comforting Alec (and maybe a chance to confront him on his MIA status for all these years). But teenage Alec is nothing like the kid Dani remembers. He’s a hockey star in a town where hockey players are worshiped as gods. Dani’s place as his shadow has been taken up by drooling female fans…and he loves it. Dani is resolved to ice out her former best friend until an unlikely series of events brings them together—and forces them to fake being a couple. Once forced together, the former childhood sweethearts begin to reconnect, unearth complicated family secrets, and face their true feelings towards each other…including the real reason Alec has been pushing Dani away all these years.

Fake Skating

Just a quick note, the ending was very similar to the end in Nothing Like The Movies, great book, just felt the end was a bit predictable as it had already happened in a previous book.

This was cute, did wonders for my mood. I fear nothing will beat Better Than The Movies though

This was so unbelievably cheesy I had to skip through the last seventy pages.

I thought the most unrealistic part was this 17-year-old boys playlist.

I have sincere doubts that to get relaxed before a physically demanding hockey game a teenage boy would listen to The Black Dog by Taylor Swift. I can't even get down to that song as someone who used to be a hard core Swifty, much less a teen boy?!

Besides the playlist, I despise a misinformation trope. It's always so irritating, and I also hate insta-love. The cheesy way they talked to each other and the cheesy things that they did gave me second hand embarrassment.

I fear this one wasn't the one for me, and that's fine. Lynn Painter has made plenty of bangers, and this just isn't my flavor.

I'll go slink back into my cave now.

I never ever ever ever ever thought I would say this… but Wes Bennett you’ve got competition.
