had to read this for school and thought it was very compelling story and interesting to see how shakespeare writes characters that are so complex.

Favourite character was Lady Macbeth. As for Macbeth something about his change in personality did not hit right. All the 3.5 stars are for Lady Macbeth!

It is really hard to understand sometimes and I read a version where there’s English next to my mother tongue and that was really helpful and otherwise and wouldn’t have been able to understand it. I think I couldn’t fully enjoy it because we watched a short film on it, so I already knew what would happen. But overall for a school read it’s quite good. But I also usually dislike reading Theater pieces because they weren’t intended for being read as a normal book.

Li antes “Hamlet”, e por comparação não consigo colocar “Macbeth” ao mesmo nível. Apesar da escrita belíssima, apesar de trabalhar muito bem a ação e psicologia dos personagens, o texto sobrevive dificilmente sem a encenação, tudo aquilo que é o contributo do ator, mas também de todo o ambiente, luzes, roupas e cenário. Podemos imaginar, mas o texto não trabalha suficientemente a caracterização destes elementos, limitando-se mais à essência da história, o que fazem os seus personagens.

Shakespeare trabalha bem o enredo, e ao fim de poucas páginas já nos tem imersos no universo ficcional, desejando saber mais sobre Macbeth e Lady Macbeth. O conflito é bem desenhado, colocando um personagem que nunca nos parece encaixar no papel negativo, a realizar ações negativas, o que converte o conflito da peça num conflito nosso. Aliás Macbeth faz lembrar Raskolnikov, o protagonista de “Crime e Castigo” de Dostoevsky, ainda que Shakespeare não tivesse os meios técnicos, em termos literários, para ir tão fundo como Dostoevsky consegue ir, e também porque Shakespeare escreveria já pensando na encenação. Por outro lado, talvez por esta ser uma das suas peças mais curtas, acaba por nos dar um desenlace demasiado breve, o trabalho de caraterização da loucura de Macbeth e Lady Macbeth são muito rápidos, e o fim aparece em poucas páginas. De certa forma sinto um desequilíbrio entre toda a intensidade imposta na primeira metade, e a segunda na qual somos claramente confrontados por uma espécie de anticlímax.

Macbeth is such an uncharismatic MC, I really thought the story would unfold into something grand after the second act but it just got more stale. 

The idea of one becoming a usurper because of a prophecy foretold by three witches you don't know is quite funny to me add that to the fact he killed banquo who would've been a good advisor ....the way he handled Duncan's children fleeing..also very stupid. The plot to kill Duncan was also poorly executed...like nothing about this story is good to me 

Like this is a play filled with one person's bad decisions and it's not interesting enough to me ....I really wish I could love this but this might be his only play I will never reread

Re-read August 2020:

In an unexpected turn of events, I'm living my dreams and taking a Shakespeare class this semester. highly recommend changing your entire class schedule so you can indulge in classic English lit!!!

and yes, I'm already behind in the class and had to binge-read an entire Shakespearean tragedy in one night. my lack of sleep is the real tragedy here.

My crazed 1am thoughts:

- "what, you egg" is still my favorite Shakespeare quote
- The three witches are trolling Macbeth so hard & I'm here for it
- I have Significant Issues with the No Fear, Shakespeare edition and how it translates my man Shakespeare's eloquence
- Macbeth is such an extra character. just . . . sooooo extra
- I definitely didn't spend my time looking up memes to include in my discussion board post

WELL, THAT WAS SOMETHING.

This was slightly depressing (I don't even bother keeping track of the death toll in Shakespeare tragedies, lol) but also very insightful. Shakespeare had a masterful knowledge of human nature, and he used that mastery to craft very complex characters. Though his writing style might be difficult to understand at times (thank goodness for footnotes), I found it somehow richer and more expressive than I did my first time reading his works.

Honestly, this is just a masterful work of fiction right here. Everyone needs to read some Shakespeare.

Macbeth by William Shakespeare

I read this as part of my Year 9 English lessons. I personally love Shakespeare and Macbeth is a great story. It's one of the most well known stories, mainly because of the three witches and the line, 'is this a dagger I see before me'. It's definatley one to check out, even if you're not an English student.
