This would've been a 3 star book if not for the beautiful illustrations in this book, they deserve all the recognition.

 deserves all the recognition because... boy did the art help this book tremendously. So much so it upped it an entire star! And I am a very picky reviewer. 

An accurate, easy to read, and well written tale of Galatea, though not much else. (Maybe because I read the translation in Turkish, though from the reviews I've read it seems my thought process is valid.)

Desperately wanted this to give me more, more pages, more of the characters, more of the setting, more of the motivations — especially that of Galatea. 

There are a lot of things this story isn't, but for what it is; it's a pretty solid mythology retelling. Calling it a retelling seems false in retrospect as this is one of the only correct tellings of Galatea in the first place.
