Chlorine Sky
Reviews

This one is a sweet, humble, and hugely likeable novel in verse. I loved every single person in it, flaws and all; they seem drawn with affection, but with a keen understanding of the pain of a dissolving friendship.

I loved it. It was sad and relatable. I could see my younger self through this book.

This was a giveaway win from a friend on Instagram, and I'm so happy I had this one pinned on wishlist because it did not disappoint. Mahogany L. Browne tells the story of young Sky going through the trials of teenage-girlhood, falling in and out of friendships with people you held as family, arguing with actual family members, falling in "like" and then what appears to be love and then having your heart ripped out, as melodramatically as that sounds and appears. And lastly, undergoing the trials and tribulations of what it means love and find yourself as a growing person. I think Browne hit the nail on the head with this powerful poetry stance. It's been my goal in 2022 to read more short stories and poetry pieces, and I'm glad I got to add this one to my list of read books. 5/5 definitely recommend!

Thanks to Libro.fm for this copy Powerful verse novel on the agony of being a teen - the frenemy situations, being under a spotlight of similarly insecure humans compounded by race, poverty and tough family situations - and the importance of sport - especially for young girls as a way of reclaiming themselves
