I was incredibly disappointed with this book. I really wanted to like it and learn more about Marco Polo's legendary journey. Before reading this book I knew only that he was a Venetian who went to China. After reading this book I know a bit more but I wish that I had learned it in a book that had been written much better. There are several things wrong with this book. One, the narrator was horrible. Two, the author relied way too heavily on Marco's own work. He quotes the work far too much. Three, the author includes incredible amounts of completely unnecessary gratuitous descriptions of bodily functions, including sexual, all couched in the euphoniums of Polo's time. Four, the work is profoundly boring and reads like a glorified hagiography. I strongly recommend against anyone reading this book.
