I am not the target for this book, but I still enjoyed it. It is like a badass tattoos nun who was like a gay punk before she joined a convent. And now there are things happening on the grounds (arsons) and she is fed up with the cops response, so she is taking matters into her own hands. Someone out there is dying for this exact story, I just know it.

if you grew up catholic, this is a fun whodunnit. is it the best crime story? no. i felt like i wanted more answers to my questions. but i had a good time reading.

This had SO MUCH potential. I mean a queer crime solving nun?? 

It was so boring though. Most of the book was the narrator talking about sweat mixed in with retellings of her traumatic past. The main character did absolutely no “sleuthing” either. 

The .5 is for the last chapter alone, in which we learn the motive and the arsonist, neither of which I guessed. I just wish it didn’t feel so rushed. 

Also, I really need authors to start researching disabilities before writing about them. There’s a scene where a diabetic is given insulin for hypoglycemia, which would have probably killed him in real life. Please don’t ever do that.

3.5 rounded up. This was mystery in a genre new to me: cozy noir. Dark stuff but the style was very cozy mystery. Make of that what you will. If there is a second installment I will read it.

really original story with complex characters with complex backstories. the prose was gorgeous, but dialogue felt cheesy. the ending wasn’t satisfying but overall it was a really unique read.
