Marian Keyes

Surviving an illness that kept her hospitalized for months, Stella Sweeney discovers that a successful book has been published about her case that compels her to relocate to New York and pursue a career as a self-help memoirist.

The Woman Who Stole My Life

Name: Stella Sweeney. Height: average. Recent life events: dramatic. One day, sitting in traffic, married Dublin mum Stella Sweeney attempts a good deed. The resulting car crash changes her life. For she meets a man who wants her telephone number (for the insurance, it turns out). That's okay. She doesn't really like him much anyway (his Range Rover totally banjaxed her car). But in this meeting is born the seed of something which will take Stella thousands of miles from her old life, turning an ordinary woman into a superstar, and, along the way, wrenching her whole family apart. Is this all because of one ill-advised act of goodwill? Was meeting Mr Range Rover destiny or karma? Should she be grateful or hopping mad? For the first time, real, honest-to-goodness happiness is just within her reach. But is Stella Sweeney, Dublin housewife, ready to grasp it? 'Keyes' writing is not just highly entertaining but strangely uplifting and the follow-your-dream philosophy leaves a warm glow. Keyes makes you believe that anybody can do anything if they have the right karma.' 5/5 stars, The Sunday Express 'It's one of those rare books that will swallow up your day without realising it. Closer Praise for Marian Keyes 'Engaging characters, fabulous plotting and spot-on dialogue. Marian Keyes: what a genius.' Daily Mail 'A brilliant, unusual, brave, sexy book.' The Woman Who Stole My Life by Marian Keyes

Stella is stricken with a disease that leaves her paralyzed within her own body. She is unable to communicate except through blinking. Eventually she recovers and realizes that while she was out of commission, a lot had changed in her marriage, in her relationship with her children and in her other aspects of life. Eventually a book is published about her ordeal and she becomes a public figure of sorts. That is not without its price either. This book was good, Irishchick/women's fiction. Keyes is a foremost writer in this genre. Her characters are flawed, believable and interesting. Readers will fill invested in Stella and want things to work out for her. This book has romance, humor and a plot that is filled with interesting twists. I enjoyed it. I received a copy of this book from Amazon Vine in exchange for a honest review.

Stella Sweeny is back in Dublin. After living the dream in New York for a year - touring her self-help book, appearing on talk shows all over the USA and living it up in her 10-room duplex on the Upper West Side - she's back to normality with a bang. And she's got writer's block

I wanted to like this and I was so excited that I was able to buy this in the UK before the U.S. release. It just didn't work for me. While Keyes is a brilliant storyteller, the way the book was written (going back and forth between the main characters book and present day then the past got thrown in there as well) was confusing and choppy. None of the characters had any sympathetic redeeming qualities that made me want to root for them - I just wanted all of them to go away! It took a lot for me to finish this one. I may just stick to her earlier books.
