4,5⭐️

3.5 stars i've read a few mariana zapata books at this point and i think this is my second favorite behind the wall of winnipeg. it had the usual tropes the author writes about but honestly i didn't mind because she knows how to do them well (age gaps, grumpy sunshine, slow burn, etc). overall this book was a fun time and gave me the hit of romance i was looking for at the time. thank you to Netgalley for the review copy as usual!

Highlights

No one ever told you how hard it was to make friends as an adult. But it was hard. Real hard.

I've been watching you grow for months. I don't want to be something you grow around.

I wanted to live. It wasn't like that was a new thought, but there was a difference between living and living, and I wanted the latter. I wanted the latter more than anything. An entire life could change in a single moment, with one action, and in a way, I had forgotten that.

All I could think about, when I could, was that I had so much still left to live for.

You could start over any day of the week, at any time of the year, at any point in your life, and it was fine.

We don't get to choose who the people we love become or are, but you do get to pick if you want to stick around.

Everyone is scared of something, and perfection isn't realistic. We're humans, not robots.

Most people are too scared to ever put themselves in a position to be criticized. You shouldn't care what they think if they don't have the guts to do what you're doing.

And the only way you could move was by taking that first step and sometimes it didn't matter which direction you took it as long as you did.
