The magyck came at a price, as it did with most creatures. For Arioch and his kind, it meant the lack of a soul in place of those dark smoky tendrils. It was poetic, in a fucked up and twisted way; not possessing a soul, yet craving another’s.

“Do you think I’m a monster?” he asked, moving his mouth to her neck and grazing his teeth over her skin. 

She nodded wordlessly and for a moment he stilled. Then she felt his teeth, a bite that was strong enough to force a sharp inhale between her lips. His tongue chased away the sting, hitting that spot below her ear that had her back arching into him slightly. 

“Yet you’re not afraid of me.” He bit her again, harder this time and she hissed, leaning into his mouth to try and lessen the sting. 

"(...)You should be terrified— dangling that fragile life of yours over certain death, but you’re not. You should have been terrified in that room, but instead, you stood your ground. So, tell me what makes a creature that doesn’t fear death run with such resolution?” 

She had nowhere to go. He’d thrust her into another cage, one without bars, forcing her words when all she wanted was to say quiet. But when she thought about what she was afraid of, she found a semblance of strength and met his gaze with every last ounce of it. 

His eyes picked her apart, stripped her down, and melted her armor like it was nothing. She’d never seen a color so cold be so burning hot.

“Violence from beautiful creatures,” he said, flourishing his hand and retrieving a needle and thread from somewhere inside his shadows. Then he leaned over, just as he dropped the two things in her small hands, his lips brushing the shell of her ear, “is one of the things I like.”
