Rhys Winterborne, has not had a easy life, he has perservered through some tough situations. First off he is Welch, and for many he is looked down upon especially when he was younger. But Rhys even though he had parents that taught him right, weren't the most affectionate or loving of people but they taught him about hard work. Rhys built his father's small shop into an empire and he is one of the wealthiest men in England. Rhys seems cold and harsh on the surface, but on the inner part's he is craving companionship and love just like anyone else. He has made mistakes in the past but when Helen enters his life again, he refuses to let her go. Boy, can I just say that Rhys is one sexy hero!! One of the best Kleypas has written. Man he was mouthwatering, and I felt a bit weak in the knees just reading his character. I love how loyal and devoted he is to Helen. When he becomes committed...man does he do it so well but boy is he arrogrant about it all.

Helen, out of all the siblings, she is the most gracious and well learned of them all. She can pass for any society miss. She gives the appearance of being the perfect debutante even if that is the exact opposite of what she truly wants in life. Helen, has been the dutiful daughter and sister. She has always said the right thing's, and did the right things. But when she loses Rhys after some miscommunications,,.,she has to fix it because she loves him and doesn't want to let him go.

Helen is a fighter when it comes to the people she loves. She is true to her word and to her family. Helen can be shy and reserved but is solid in every way that matters. She has learned to protect herself at a very young age. We see how she fights for the first time for what she truly wants and NOT what other expect from her even if it will cause a great scandal. I loved her from the beginning and loved seeing her get what she deserved.
 
  
    Plot and Story Line 
  
 
Marrying Winterborne is finally HERE!!! And honestly ladies...and Gents of course (men are always welcome in the Kleypas fan club) I couldn't put this one down!! I bought it, read it and loved every single page. I will admit, after reading the first book Cold Hearted Rake, I was a bit nerve wracked over this book. I liked Cold Hearted Rake, but it wasn't like the other historical's that Lisa Kleypas has written in the past. However Marrying Winterborne was simply fantastic and I knew from within the first chapter, that she got her groove back and so thrilled.

Now this book, I would recommend reading Cold Hearted Rake first. You don't HAVE to, it can be read as a stand alone, there is some background information given that will keep you from being lost however having said all that, I do recommend reading the first book since it has the background information and the beginnings of their relationship. This book sets off pretty quickly after the last book ended. Helen goes into Rhy's office, to get him back. No matter what it takes. Our heroine, is pretty determined to fight for her man (*sigh* love this moment honestly, this scene is brilliant) Some beautiful moments and enough sensuality to curl your toes and they become reconciled and engagement is back on. But life is never simple especially for these two. Some complications, secrets and truths will need to be revealed before these two can find their HEA. What I truly admired the most about the way this story was spun is how each factor fit into the story. I honestly had a hard time containing my excitement from this book and not skipping because I wanted to find out what was going to happen. The story really builds when we learn who Helen's true father is (truly not a good guy at all) and is Rhy's mortal enemy, so there is quite a dilemma that Helen goes through.

  
    Helen couldn't deny that Mr. Winterborne's personal attraction were high on her list of considerations. A man in his prime, radiating that remarkable energy, a kind of animal vitality that she found both frightening and irresistible. But there was something else about him...a lure more potent than any other. It happened during his rare moments of tenderness with her, when it seemed as if the deep, tightly locked cache of sadness in her heart was about to break open. He was the only person who had ever approached that trapped place, who might someday be able to shatter the loneliness that had always held fast inside her. 
  

My heart really reached out to her, because she wants to be honest with him even though others are warning her away from being honest. I wanted to smack these people, because REALLY!! But Helen she holds true to what she knows is right even if she is risking losing Rhys. And the way the story spirals downward is so right for these two and Rhys is a hero you fall in love with even MORE than before.

Possibly 4.5? Thoroughly enjoyable but I hope someone kicks Vance into the depths of hell sometime soon. 🤷🏻‍♀️ my biggest peeve with this one was, as expected, the drama (not the drama itself which was, as always with Kleypas, deftly handled, but with the LONG DRAWN OUT LET’S NOT EXPLAIN IT TO SO AND SO of it all).

I absolutely loved the ending of this book, and Lisa Kleypas has some of the most swoon-worthy writing. This love story began in the previous book, and I absolutely wanted more. I kept being surprised throughout this book because the plot kept surprising me, and at one point I felt a lull because I didn't like the conflict and was predicting a direction that I wouldn't like (but surprisingly I was wrong, and the conflict wasn't as bad as I thought it would be).

Overall, Lisa Kleypas writes amazing historical romances. I 100% recommend her books. I think this series is going to keep getting better, and some of my most anticipated books are ahead. I can't wait!

I think Kleypas' novels rely a lot on their main character's likability. I suppose that's why I wanted so much for this book to be over. Winterborne is a controlling, arrogant, possessive asshole. Did not like.

This was a lush read-there was so much happening that you felt part of the world, this was a nice holdover from the previous novel. 
Rhys and Helen were amazing together--they brought out each other's strengths. Rhys is a little (lot) obsessed with Helen. And good, sweet Helen doesn't know how to lie or scheme so that's refreshing. 
The best part of this book--there is no unnecessary drama. There is conflict, but the leads talk it out without thinking the worst of each other. Bless.

Continue on in the series? For sure. Re-read? Yes! I might even buy it lol.

Oh I think I'm going to have the issue of comparing all other Historical Romance books to this one. I adored Helen. Rhys was just so perfectly protective and stern, but had this sweet softness for Helen. I loved how Helen found her strength and was forced to face her privilege that wouldn't generally be in other romance novels. I think the story is so complex and you can't help but hope that it will all come out alright. 

This will definitely be one of my favorite books of all time and definitely be one of my favorites of the year hands down.

Unfortunate misunderstandings ended Lady Helen and Winterborne's engagement in Cold-Hearted Rake, but these are quickly resolved at the beginning of this sequel. However, different parties are so upset at Winterborne for these misunderstandings that it isn't enough to resume the engagement. Thus Helen agrees to let Winterborne "ruin" her to ensure the engagement, this being the plan of action because Helen does not want to elope. Of course, various other circumstances arise to threaten their marriage.

I had a lot of fun with this book - especially the Welsh nationalism.

Listened to the audiobook - which was perfection. Mary Jane Wells nails the character voices and the emotions. A lovely listen.

More often than not, when I finally read a book that was on my TBR for a long time, I want to kick myself for waiting so long. That's certainly the case with Marrying Winterborne. Lisa Kleypas is undoubtedly the queen of historical romance and I've loved everything she's written (that I've read so far anyhow). The fact that I let Helen and Rhys hang out on my bookshelves this long without reading their story makes me sad. But, it also gave me a chance to binge the third book and upcoming fourth books, so I can't be that upset with myself. There's nothing quite like a good LK HR binge. 

Each time I pick up one of Lisa's books, I fall hopelessly in love with her characters — even when I'm convinced there's NO WAY she could make me fall for them. (*cough* Devil in Winter *cough*) Helen and Rhys were absolutely no exception. These two were amazing in their own right and even more so together. Helen was so strong and determined and is undoubtedly one of my new favorite HR heroines. Her choices and actions made me smile and, later on in the book, gave me ALL THE FEELS. Rhys was charming and thoughtful. I wasn't exactly sure what to expect from him after meeting him in Cold-Hearted Rake, but he was amazing, totally swoon-worthy and a new favorite book boyfriend. 

I loved everything about Marrying Winterborne. It was lush and romantic, sweet and sexy. Helen and her sisters kept me entertained and I can't wait to get their stories, too. (Ok, by this point I've already read Pandora's, but anyhow...) I shipped Helen and Rhys so freaking hard, though if we're being totally honest, I was shipping them as far back as in Cold-Hearted Rake when I could just tell there was something brewing there. The Ravenels series just keeps getting better and I am here for it.
