Silent Nights A British Library Crime Classic
Reviews

a very pleasant collection of short stories, if not for christmas, then for any suitably foggy day. it is evident that martin edwards has made a thoughtful selection of a variety of stories, including both brain teasers and supernatural elements, deep cuts and popular names.
a nice addition for crime fiction fans was the two stories that call on them to figure out how the detectives figured out the method (and perpetrator) of the crime. i am sure this will excite quite a lot of genre junkies.
as for myself, my favourite stories were: "the blue carbuncle" by arthur conan doyle, "the unknown murderer" by h.c. bailey, "the absconding treasurer" by j. jefferson farjeon (one of my top three in the collection), "the necklace of pearls" by dorothy l. sayers, "waxworks" by ethel lina white (another one of my top three), "cambric tea" by marjorie bowen (my absolute favourite of the collection) and "the name on the window" by edmund crispin
