There are a dozen - more - fifteen, eighteen, twenty giant turtles slipping out of the water through the sand, held in a perfect parallel line as if connected by invisible tissue. They move with mechanical inevitability, rolling forward like tank treads. Lifting the bulk from below, tipping forward, using the momentum of the minor collapse as a motive force, a means of going on.
