the thing about mary renault is that you can’t really find any flaw in her writing. this wasn’t as epic as the alexander trilogy, nor had me as emotionally invested as with the last of the wine, but i enjoyed every page nonetheless.

oh, to be like simonides, and float through the events of my time like a feather, witness and accept everything that fate throws at me like a mere passing traveller headed for a further destination.
