Master of Iron

Master of Iron

In Master of Iron, the conclusion to Tricia Levenseller’s exciting Bladesmith YA fantasy duology, a magically gifted blacksmith with social anxiety must race against the clock to save her beloved sister and stop a devastating war. Eighteen-year-old Ziva may have defeated a deadly warlord, but the price was almost too much. Ziva is forced into a breakneck race to a nearby city with the handsome mercenary, Kellyn, and the young scholar, Petrik, to find a powerful magical healer who can save her sister’s life. When the events that follow lead to Ziva and Kellyn’s capture by an ambitious prince, Ziva is forced into the very situation she’s been dreading: magicking dangerous weapons meant for world domination. The forge has always been Ziva’s safe space, a place to avoid society and the anxiety it causes her, but now it is her prison, and she’s not sure just how much of herself she’ll have to sacrifice to save Kellyn and take center stage in the very war she’s been trying to stop.

4.5 stars I really liked this Duology, its a perfect pick for May for Mental Health Awareness Month. The MC like me has anxiety so I found her more relatable. The end of book 1 was a cliffhanger, so I jumped straight into book 2. This cover is absolutely gorgeous, even tho I did the audiobooks on Libby. Events send our quad back on the road. The 2 MCs get captured. Ziva sees first hand what happens when her magical weapons end up in the hands of bad people that want to use them for war and conquest of all the lands. This hurts Ziva's spirit and she doesnt want to forge magical weapons anymore, but war is coming and Ziva needs to help the war effort to keep her loved ones and friends and everyone else safe. The romance also grows and Ziva becomes more mature. All around just a great YA Fantasy duology that I would highly recommend.

I don't think I've ever read a Tricia Levenseller book I didn't like, and this fits the pattern. Ziva's character development in this is so, so good, and I feel like in here her social anxiety is explored more? But it has been awhile since I read Blade of Secrets. I also need a Kellyn. Like he's so patient and pure and I love him so much.

A really sweet conclusion to this duology. I liked the adventure and the characters. The war and magical parts were cool to read. The romance for the most part was sweet. I wasn't a fan of Ziva and Kellyn in the beginning with their silly arguing, but the rest of the story was good. What I focused the most on was Ziva's character growth, going from an insecure person with social anxiety to a more brave and confident person. She still struggled with the anxiety, but I admired how much she learned to love herself despite that.
