I enjoyed Modelland so much I thought I'd read another YA dystopia ostensibly inspired by reality television series (Project Runway). Instead of hilaribad, like Modelland though, Material Girls was simply bad. Yes, I read the whole thing.

(view spoiler)[I found it terribly ironic that while one of the main morals of the story is that mindlessly following trends leads to suppression of creativity, the author makes the readers go through vague convolutions regarding a long-ago economic recession to justify writing this as a YA dystopia (ya know, the trendy genre of the moment) instead of just cutting to the chase and writing the protagonists as in their early fifties, when women are presently treated as being culturally irrelevant.
