4 Kids Walk Into a Bank

4 Kids Walk Into a Bank

4 KIDS WALK INTO A BANK is the darkly comedic story of four burgeoning child criminals and their elaborate plans. When a group of bumbling criminals show up in her father's life looking to pull one last job, young Paige has two choices - let her father get caught up in their criminal hijinks or enlist her three best friends to do the job first. Paige picks the bad one. 180ish pages of full color comic-booking about friendship, family, growing up, and grand larceny from rising star writer Matthew Rosenberg (WE CAN NEVER GO HOME, KINGPIN, SECRET WARRIORS) and equally rising star artist Tyler Boss (LAZARUS, CALEXIT, Vice Magazine). This vollume collects the complete series that Kieron Gilled (THE WICKED + THE DIVINE, DARTH VADER) described as "Imagine Tarantino does Goonies. And excellent." and Brian K. Vaughan (SAGA, Y THE LAST MAN) said was "Exploding with ambition and love of the medium!" Collects issues 1-5.

Really liked this one! It gets +1 star for the artwork basically, which is amazing. The story was great too. This is what a comic to take a break from supes looks like. A bunch of kids getting into trouble again and again while playing games, the script is really good and the plot is promising from the start, even though it makes you wanna see what happens since all you waiting for is for the title of the comic to finally happen. The characters is where it's at here, and how everyone acts and reacts to everything and everyone around them. Really fleshed out characters that no matter what, in the end you'll definitely get closer with them, even if it is only a 5 issues long relationship, which is what's sad here, because I could read this as an ongoing series for sure. Recommended!

Dec 20, 2017: ABSOLUTELY FANTASTIC!! If I could get twenty more volumes out of this, I'd be in heaven. 4 Kids has it all: excellent writing that makes you believe in good storytelling again; great pacing for the plot and humour, which is always hard to pull off in graphic novel format; lovable characters that are relatable on all the wrong levels; stylish art to match the action; and the atmospheric blend of mundane and surreal that boggles the mind. If you want to find out why four kids decide to rob a bank and what comes out of it, jump on this brilliant comic now! A complete story in one book - it made me cry with joy.

This is such a charming comic. I had originally picked up the first issue or two when it first came out, but never ended up reading them. I'm really glad I picked it back up in trade format, because it was a treat. It has elements of Paper Girls, a story of kids dealing with things way beyond their limits. Overall, it was a great read! Definitely recommend for anyone who like stories of kids in the 80's going on adventures and comic/graphic novel fans. Thanks to Netgalley for a free copy in exchange for an honest review.
