EDDL Electronic Device Description Language
The Electronic Device Description is a technology to integrate field devices of different vendors into different plants. It is a descriptive technology. Hence EDDs are not executable but very portable between platforms and different EDD applications. The technology defines a language called EDDL, This language is meanwhile standardized in IEC 61804-3. The language is used in order to describe the automation related properties and functions of field devices by means of high sophisticated user interfaces. The EDD technology addresses tasks as diagnostic, asset management or real-time information exchange. In principle, the language EDDL is easy to learn. This book assists this process by introducing existing development tools and a detailed description of the manifold features. Furthermore some aspects of the development of an EDD of a hypothetical device will be shown. Finally the book summarizes the concept of modular devices, introduced in IEC 61804-3 and gives an outlook, how EDD will be integrated in the concept of Field Device Integration architecture. The book is directed at EDD developers as well as at the management. The book is also includes a CD-ROM.
